The Opportunity
Film Impact is expanding beyond Premiere Pro desktop to mobile, Firefly, After Effects, and web-based experiences. We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to define the architecture that enables this expansion and helps establish a more unified foundation for effects and rendering technology across Adobe.
This is a cross-team architectural leadership role. You will work closely with engineering teams across Adobe to ensure that Film Impact integrations are not developed as independent solutions, but contribute toward a coherent, scalable technical foundation.
What you’ll do
- Define the technical architecture and long-term direction for Film Impact across Adobe products and platforms.
- Partner with multiple teams, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Firefly, mobile, and web teams to drive alignment and architectural convergence.
- Lead major architectural decisions and design reviews spanning macOS, Windows, iOS, Android, and WebGPU environments.
- Help modernize and simplify Adobe’s effects and rendering extensibility frameworks.
- Identify opportunities to reduce duplicated technology and establish shared capabilities across products.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship across team boundaries, balancing near-term product needs with long-term architectural goals.
What you need to succeed
- Significant experience designing and evolving complex software architectures across products or platforms.
- Deep expertise in graphics, rendering, GPU computing, media processing, effects systems, or related technologies.
- Experience leading major technical decisions and influencing multiple engineering teams.
- Strong understanding of performance, memory, GPU, and platform constraints across desktop, mobile, and/or web environments.
- Excellent technical judgment and ability to build consensus across senior engineering stakeholders.
What Success Looks Like
Initially, you will establish a strong technical partnership between Film Impact and other Adobe teams and address key architectural challenges.
Over time, you will lead the architecture for bringing Film Impact technology into After Effects and help drive toward a more unified effects and rendering foundation serving multiple Adobe products and platforms.
Success means moving beyond individual integrations toward a simpler, more scalable architecture for delivering high-quality effects, transitions, and rendering capabilities across Adobe.
