Job Description:
- Performs venous, capillary, urine drug screen, swab, or other specimen collection, ensuring appropriate specimen identification and type.
- Centrifuges, aliquots, and distributes samples to appropriate testing areas, including loading samples onto various analyzers.
- Generates and reports waived and moderate complexity test results under supervision.
- Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots testing-related processes, equipment, and instrumentation, documenting activities as required.
- Monitors test system performance and takes corrective action as necessary. Provides advanced troubleshooting skills and utilizes critical thinking to analyze, correlate, and interpret data.
- Supports department compliance with laboratory accreditation and regulatory requirements.
- Compiles and reviews laboratory information system reports to ensure timely collection, processing, and testing of samples.
- Handles inquiries and resolves complaints related to laboratory services and information promptly and effectively.
- Communicates critical and significant results and findings to coworkers, providers, and other departments to ensure continuity of laboratory operations and patient care.
- Oversees day-to-day activities of department associates on assigned shifts and provides input on associate performance and recognition.
- Coordinates training and competency assessments for new associates and students under the guidance of laboratory leadership.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
