THE ROLE: The Senior Manager of Supply Chain Strategy is an individual contributor to own end to end supply chain strategy for overall rack-level components within the rack. You will partner with engineering, product management, procurement, and OEM/ ODM partners to build a supply chain that is resilient, cost competitive, and capable of scaling to meet rapidly growing demand in the AI infrastructure market. THE PERSON: Description of what type of person would be successful in the role and any characteristics needed. (typically soft skills). KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supply Chain Strategy & Architecture Define and own the multi-year supply chain strategy for Helios rack-level components, including power delivery units, all cabling, cooling systems (air & liquid), mechanical rack structures, and system PCBA, and management controllers. Evaluate and recommend make-vs.-buy and direct-vs.-distribution sourcing models for each component category, balancing cost, quality, flexibility, and geopolitical risk. Develop rack-level bill-of-material (BoM) supply strategies that align with product roadmap milestones and customer delivery commitments. Supplier Strategy & Ecosystem Development Lead strategic supplier selection, qualification, and dual/multi-sourcing programs for critical rack-level commodities — including sheet metal fabrication, power electronics, thermal modules, cable assemblies, and embedded management firmware components. Come out long-term supply agreements, capacity reservations, and pricing frameworks with tier-1 and tier-2 suppliers in collaboration with Procurement. Establish supplier scorecards and governance cadences; drive corrective actions for quality, delivery, or capacity shortfalls. Demand Planning & Inventory Optimization Define inventory positioning strategy (safety stock, buffer stock, strategic reserve) for long-lead and sole-sourced rack components to protect customer commitments. Drive S&OP integration for rack components, ensuring supply-demand alignment is reviewed and escalated to leadership on a monthly cadence. New Product Introduction (NPI) Supply Chain Readiness Embed supply chain strategy into the Helios product development lifecycle from concept through production ramp, owning supply readiness gates at each phase review. Identify and mitigate supply constraints for next-generation rack components (e.g., Mi400-series accelerators, next-gen liquid cooling loops, next-gen network switch ASICs) 12–24 months ahead of introduction. Define contract manufacturer (CM) and original design manufacturer (ODM) strategy for rack assembly and integration, including capacity, quality systems, and logistics flows. Risk Management & Supply Continuity Maintain a living supply chain risk register; quantify financial and schedule exposure for each risk and own mitigation plans. Lead response to supply disruptions (allocation shortfalls, geopolitical events, natural disasters, factory incidents), coordinating cross-functionally to protect customer deliveries. Drive geographic diversification and resiliency programs — e.g., qualifying alternate assembly sites, reducing single-country dependencies for critical components. Cost & Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Optimization Model and track total landed cost for rack configurations; identify and implement cost-reduction opportunities across component, logistics, and assembly layers. Partner with engineering to influence design-for-supply-chain choices (standard interfaces, modular designs, component commonality) that lower cost and complexity. Develop should-cost models for key rack commodities to anchor supplier negotiations and benchmark market competitiveness. Executive Reporting & Cross-Functional Leadership Own supply chain KPI reporting for Helios rack programs: on-time delivery, component availability, inventory turns, supply risk exposure, and cost-to-plan. Present supply chain status, risks, and strategic recommendations to AMD executive leadership (VP/SVP level) on a regular cadence. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 15+ years of progressive supply chain experience in semiconductor, server/systems hardware, or high-technology manufacturing environments. Demonstrated expertise in supply chain strategy for complex multi-component hardware systems (rack, blade, server, networking, or storage platforms preferred). Experience owning supplier strategy and negotiations for high-value, long-lead commodities (power electronics, advanced packaging, or mechanical systems a plus). Strong analytical foundation: demand/supply modeling, inventory optimization, should-cost analysis, and scenario planning. Track record of cross-functional influence without direct authority across engineering, finance, sales, and operations. Excellent executive communication skills — able to synthesize complex supply chain tradeoffs into clear narratives and recommendations.
