The Search Platform Experience team is transforming how users discover information and use AI and machine learning in their daily work. As part of Atlassian's Rovo Experiences & Growth organisation, we build foundational capabilities for Rovo, our AI-powered search and knowledge platform.

We are looking for a deeply technical Senior Engineering Manager who combines strong people leadership with hands-on software engineering experience. You will build and develop an exceptional engineering team while remaining actively engaged with the architecture and codebase, including contributing production code.

You will partner with product, design, engineering, and machine learning leaders to shape our strategy and deliver intuitive, scalable, and reliable search experiences across Atlassian's products.

• Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing engineering team responsible for AI-powered search experiences.
• Shape the technical direction and long-term architecture of Search Platform Experience.
• Partner with product and design leaders to define roadmaps and turn ambiguous opportunities into clear plans and customer outcomes.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership through architecture, production code, technical design, and code reviews.
• Guide the delivery of scalable, high-performance, accessible, and reliable frontend and full-stack experiences for Rovo and Atlassian Search.
• Partner with principal engineers, architects, and machine learning teams to solve complex search and discovery challenges.
• Lead multi-quarter initiatives involving globally distributed teams and cross-functional dependencies.
• Establish high standards for software quality, operational excellence, reliability, security, and continuous delivery.

• Significant experience leading and developing engineering teams that build large-scale web products or enterprise cloud solutions.
• Deep frontend or full-stack expertise using React, TypeScript, Node.js, Java or comparable modern technologies.
• Recent production software development experience and the ability to contribute effectively within a modern, large-scale codebase.
• Experience architecting and operating high-scale, multi-tenant SaaS products.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and cloud platforms—ideally AWS.
• A track record of shaping technical strategy and delivering complex, multi-quarter initiatives across distributed teams.
• Experience partnering effectively with product, design, architecture, and machine learning teams.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain strategy, progress, risks, and technical trade-offs to senior stakeholders.
