What we are looking for

We’re searching for an Autonomous Vehicle Command Center Operations Specialist based in Coppell, Texas. This role is embedded within Vehicle Operations and collaborates closely with multiple teams to drive fleet optimization, efficient utilization, and scaled operations .

The ideal candidate will rapidly grasp complex IT systems to monitor, direct, and deploy AV vehicles in multiple environments. The Command Center is at the forefront of technical innovation in autonomy and commercialization efforts. The CCOS role optimizes the commercial fleet, strategically deploys assets, and monitors AV behavior to ensure operational success.

Employees who work in Aurora Operations are expected to be open to working a variety of shifts. Most sites have night and weekend shifts, and many of our day shifts include one weekend day as part of the regular schedule. We do our best to match shifts with personal preference, but we reserve the right to assign employees to shifts and schedules based on business needs. All employees may be required to work overtime or on holidays, especially during our busy seasons.

In this role you will

- Respond to and resolve in a timely manner a variety of trigger requests from the autonomous vehicle

- Monitor the conditions the autonomous vehicles are operating in, such as weather conditions and traffic patterns

- Safely send remote commands to autonomous vehicles for on road and closed course testing

- Log real time feedback regarding autonomy and platform performance during testing, to be delivered to engineers

- Triage and review of remote assist workflows that are key to performance metrics and compliance

- Escalate operational blockers with suggested solutions

- Demonstrate positive impact at Aurora by working on cross-functional projects as time permits

- Maintain up to date knowledge of how our self-driving technology works. Understand daily software and operational changes

- Work toward quantitative and qualitative goals that impact all of Autonomous Operations and Aurora

- Interact with the public as an ambassador for Aurora

- Serve as the initial point of contact for system analysis, resolving basic, well-documented vehicle issues.

- Operate the LM Remote Troubleshooter for diagnostics, checking configuration details, and managing the vehicle's stack (e.g., IDLE/AUTO).

- Generate and manage essential diagnostic reports (Vehicle Report, Sysreport) and ensure thorough documentation and communication in Slack channels.

- Execute documented workarounds and procedures for common checklist failures (e.g., Propulsion Critical, Logging Disk Full).

- Follow formal procedures to escalate complex or persistent issues to Vehicle Reliability Engineering (VRE) with complete documentation and summary.

Required Qualifications

- Ability to maintain sustained focus while monitoring proprietary software tools that support autonomous vehicle operations

- Strong written and verbal communication skills

- Exceptional attention to detail

- Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively and make sound, proactive decisions in a dynamic environment

- Unwavering commitment to safety in all aspects of work

- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities

- A growth mindset with a genuine enthusiasm for continuous learning

- Valid U.S. driver's license with a minimum of 5 years of driving experience and a clean driving record, as verified by a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check

- Must successfully pass pre-employment and random drug and alcohol screenings

- This is a fully on-site position, with occasional travel required as business needs dictate

- Flexibility to work varying shift schedules in support of a 24/7 operational environment

- Ability to work extended shifts of 10 to 12 hours

Desirable Qualifications

- Experience in complex and high risk operations

- 2+ years leadership experience with a proven record of success.

- College degree or advanced certificate in engineering trade

- Experience in operations, trucking, technology, robotics, or automotive field. Does not need to be direct industry experience.

- Passion & expertise for vehicles, vehicle maintenance, or vehicle technology.

- Experience in operations, technology, customer service, or automotive field.

- Proficient in G-Suite.

- Command line interface experience.

- Interest and aptitude for technology tools - apps, gaming, adobe creative suite, etc.

The base hourly wage range for this position is $29.00 - $36.00 per hour. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for benefits.
