Summary

Under direct supervision, is responsible for laundry exchange and dispensing uniforms, bedding and other linen in a detention facility; assists in maintaining adequate supply of uniforms and linen; supervises inmate workers; report writing of incidents, particularly destruction of County property, and performs related duties as required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conducts daily clothing and bedding exchange for detainees in their living quarters
• Receives soiled uniforms, bedding and other linen issued to detainees
• Maintain laundry exchange record sheet
• Monitor inmate work teams stocking the laundry carts
• Monitor inmate work teams laundering soiled uniforms and linens
• Maintains cleanliness of laundry area
• Performs other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School or General Education Development (GED) certificate
• Knowledge of basic laundering techniques
• Ability to understand and follow instructions; ability to maintain records and documents; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees and detainees
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
• Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen test
• Required to work weekends, holidays and perform shift work
• May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek

Working Environment and Physical Demands:

• Working conditions are inside an industrial laundry within a jail environment; exposure to damp/wet conditions with limited exposure to hazardous laundry chemicals, noxious odors and fumes
• Frequently moves items weighing up to 15 pounds
• Occasionally moves items weighing up to 60 pounds
• Occasionally moves about the laundry room
• Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
• Positions self to perform essential functions
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position
