Join Boys Town as a Sr. Bus Driver and play an important role in safely transporting youth and staff to and from school, activities, and community events. You’ll provide a reliable and positive experience for every passenger while supporting the mission of Boys Town to change the way America cares for children and families.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

Transports youth and staff in a school bus.

• Operates a motorcoach/bus safely and efficiently over designated routes.
• Transports passengers to destinations such as events, tours, etc.
• Coordinates and completes assigned transportation responsibilities according to regular schedule.
• Conducts pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure safety and compliance.
• Adheres to all traffic laws, company policies, and safety protocols.
• Performs proper maintenance and maintains cleanliness on transportation vehicles; completes reports of maintenance needs and safety conditions.
• Maintains accurate logs in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
• Monitors and supervises the appropriateness of youth behaviors providing corrections as needed.
• Ensures that passengers wear a seatbelt properly.
• Communicates with appropriate staff members regarding individual youth needs and progress.
• Administers appropriate first aid in the event of an accident.
• Monitors environment and ensures safe and secure conditions for youth.
• Handles unexpected situations such as weather, traffic delays, or passenger concerns.
• Ensures safety in accordance with policies and procedures including youth safety, outings, and reporting guidelines.
• Successfully complete all School Bus Driver qualification requirements, including Behind-The-Wheel training and Pre-Services Evaluation. Once qualified, the position will be authorized to conduct and sign off on Pre-Service Evaluations for other Boys Town Bus Drivers.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of State of Nebraska Vehicle and Driver Safety Guidelines.
• Ability to safely navigate a vehicle in all weather and road conditions.
• Ability to communicate in an articulate, professional manner.
• Knowledge of the Boys Town Model.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 21 years of age required.
• Previous driving experience required.
• Possess a minimum of a valid Class B commercial driver's license (CDL) with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements (P/ S) with a good driving record with no K/L/M/O restrictions required.
• Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and Air Brake endorsements within 6 months of transfer or hire required.
• Pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check required.
• Comply with the DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program required.
• Maintain all required commercial motor vehicle operator qualifications, including a valid DOT medical card certified by an FMCSA medical examiner required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience driving buses or commercial vehicles preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, EQUIPMENT USAGE, WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Extended periods of time in a vehicle; reasonably expected to have and maintain sufficient strength, agility, and endurance to perform during stressful (physical, mental and emotional) situations encountered on the job without compromising their health and well-being or that of their fellow employees, youth, or families.
• Work is typically in vehicle but may be performed in a variety of environments ranging from highly stressful and potentially aggressive to casual and leisurely, in both indoor and outdoor settings and may be subject to outside weather conditions occasionally. Includes constant interruptions, inappropriate behaviors, and the potential for verbal and physical threats from youth.
