Product Manager

Capital on Tap

London

We’re Capital on Tap 👋 💳 Capital on Tap started because small businesses were underserved. Big banks were slow, their products weren't fit for purpose, and small business owners often couldn't access what they needed. We set out to fix that.

Today we're a financial platform - not just a credit card company. We offer a best-in-class business credit card, SME-focused spend management platform, a savings product that hit £1 billion in funds within its first year, and a growing suite of tools and financial products that make running a small business easier.

1,000+ employees, £20bn in annual card spend, 200,000+ customers, 17,000+ Trustpilot reviews averaging 4.7 stars, and we're profitable. We’ve done a pretty good job so far, but we’re just getting started!

Product at Capital on Tap

Our Product team sits at the heart of everything we build. We move fast, work closely with engineering, and obsess over outcomes for our customers.

Product is organised into focused areas, each owning a distinct part of the customer and business journey:

  • Money movements and Banking products - our business banking proposition
  • Credit Products & Collections - credit lines, limits, pricing and collections
  • Customer Experience - the ongoing relationship customers have with us after activation
  • Operational Excellence - the tools and processes that make our internal teams more effective
  • Acquisition & Onboarding - how new and existing customers sign up and get activated
  • Fraud & FinCrime - protecting customers and the business from fraud and financial crime
  • Platform - the shared capabilities and infrastructure that other product areas build on

We're hiring a Product Manager to join this team. We will decide, together with you, which of these areas is the best fit at the end of the hiring process - so you don't need to know in advance which team you'll land in. What matters is that you bring strong generalist product management skills that can flex across any of these areas.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Owning the end-to-end design and delivery of a customer or business journey within your product area
  • Mapping the full journey including "unhappy paths", where customers drop off, get flagged, or need manual intervention, and optimising for efficiency
  • Driving discovery and competitor research to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Collaborating with engineers and designers to scope solutions, balancing customer experience with system architecture and compliance requirements
  • Presenting recommendations to stakeholders and driving delivery through to completion
  • Thinking longer-term about platform capabilities, building reusable, configurable components that scale rather than being rebuilt for every product
  • Using data and customer insight to prioritise the right problems, not just the loudest ones

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience in product management, with a track record of owning projects end-to-end and delivering impactful outcomes rather than just outputs
  • Comfort working across both front-end user experience and back-end system architecture
  • Either existing knowledge of financial services and compliance concepts (for example KYC, KYB, IDV), or direct journey optimisation experience, ideally both
  • Strong organisational skills to thrive in chaos and remain calm under everyday pressure of workload and delivery
  • The ability to synthesise large amounts of information and distil a problem down to its essence
  • Experience partnering with Product and Engineering to communicate direction to stakeholders
  • High level of trust and strong judgment when making autonomous product decisions
  • Subject matter mastery over your domain, with strong communication, facilitation, and end-to-end delivery ownership

Our Hiring Bar

Alongside the role-specific experience above, every Product Manager candidate is assessed against a shared set of traits that we look for regardless of level or product area.

Ships fast to customers - Gets things live quickly rather than over-polishing before release. Comfortable with iterative, incremental delivery.

Deals with ambiguity, adapts when priorities or requirements shift - Doesn't need a fully-formed brief to start moving. Handles the plan changing mid-flight without getting stuck.

Commercial acumen - Understands the business, the strategy, and how their product area drives outcomes such as revenue, retention or cost, not just delivery for its own sake.

Hungry to learn, no ego - Wants to develop, asks questions, takes feedback well.

AI curious - Actively uses or explores AI tools in their day-to-day work, rather than treating it as someone else's job.

Strong exec-level communication - Confident presenting up, comfortable being challenged, backs decisions with evidence rather than opinion.

Self starter - Moves without waiting to be told or chased. Takes ownership of problems even outside a strict brief.

Depth - Can go beyond the surface on their own product area - understands the mechanics, edge cases and trade-offs, not just the headline feature.

The bar for evidence scales with seniority, but the traits themselves don't change. We use this alongside role-specific technical and experience criteria at every stage of the process.
