Software Engineer

What You’ll Do

As a Software Engineer in the Cisco Crosswork Hierarchical Controller (HCO) team, you will help evolve a network controller that provides visibility, assurance, analytics, and service provisioning across complex IP and optical networks. You will collaborate with engineers and cross-functional partners to translate service providers’ needs into secure, scalable, and reliable software.

• Develop and maintain shared frameworks, backend services, APIs, and web applications for network observability and management.
• Improve application scalability and performance across services and user interfaces.
• Apply security, privacy, and resilience practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Build agentic workflows and incorporate AI-powered capabilities into product experiences.

Who You’ll Work With

You will join a globally distributed engineering team and collaborate with Product Management, Design/UX, system and network architects, technical support, and customer-facing teams.

Minimum Qualifications

• A related bachelor’s degree and 3+ years of relevant software engineering experience, or equivalent practical experience.
• Hands-on Python or Go development experience for backend services, with TypeScript and React experience building modern web applications.
• Familiarity with API development and integration using REST or RESTCONF, and API specifications such as OpenAPI.
• Experience with Linux and distributed services in Kubernetes-based environments.
• Experience with agentic engineering workflows using AI-assisted development tools such as Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience analyzing application performance, reliability, and scalability issues.
• Understanding of networking technologies such as IP, MPLS, SR-TE, SRv6, IS-IS, BGP, Ethernet services, or optical transport.
