Job Summary
ConocoPhillips’ Commercial business manages our worldwide commodity, supply, marketing, and trading needs. Working closely with Exploration, Production and Marketing, Commercial adds significant value by improving ConocoPhillips’ supply chain management and growing its third-party global trading business.
This is a counterparty due diligence role at the heart of the Commercial business. Working within our decentralized screening model, you will help ensure the counterparties we trade with — trading partners, terminals, brokers, agents, and marine-adjacent entities — are properly reviewed, understood, and cleared before we do business, and monitored for change afterwards. The majority of your time will be spent on KYC; a smaller portion supports our trade-monitoring program, giving you exposure to how trading activity is analyzed across global markets.
We are looking for someone detail-oriented, self-motivated, and trainable, who brings a genuine risk mindset and sound judgment — someone who wants to understand why a counterparty or a piece of information doesn’t add up, not just tick a box. The successful candidate is curious, organized and communicates clearly.
Position Overview
Your responsibilities may include:
- Conduct onboarding and periodic KYC reviews of Commercial and Marine counterparties
- Perform beneficial ownership reviews, unpicking ownership chains and identifying ultimate beneficial owners
- Review and adjudicate sanctions and adverse media alerts as part of counterparty reviews, resolving name matches and escalating true or uncertain hits
- Identify and escalate red flags to senior analysts with clear, well-evidenced rationale, and support the ongoing risk review of counterparties already onboarded
- Maintain the Approved Counterparty List and ensure screening records are accurate and complete
- Support trade-monitoring operations that help identify global trading activity to help identify patterns, outliers, and potential risk indicators
- Build a working understanding of the commodities ConocoPhillips trades and why counterparty screening matters to a global energy business
- Participate in business-improvement projects that strengthen screening and monitoring processes, data, and systems
Success Profile:
- Takes Accountability: Takes ownership of your work, follows through on commitments, holds others accountable, and stands up for what’s right
- Makes Decisions: Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
- Drives Performance: Delivers results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
- Communicates Effectively: Listens actively, stays curious, and invites new ideas for shared understanding, then influences and acts to drive positive performance
Basic Requirements:
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Business, Finance, Economics, Law, Criminal Justice, International Relations, or a related field
- 1 or more years of experience in counterparty due diligence, sanctions or trade compliance, risk, banking, counterparty onboarding or contracts, or a related field (including internships)
Preferred Requirements:
- Experience reviewing and clearing sanctions or adverse media alerts, and hands-on exposure to CDD/EDD and beneficial ownership reviews
- Familiarity with sanctions regimes (US OFAC, UK OFSI, EU, Canada, Norway, Australia) and screening tools
- Exposure to commodities/energy markets, or a demonstrated interest in learning them
- Working proficiency with Excel, and exposure to data-visualization tools (Power BI / Tableau) or SQL — or a demonstrated ability and drive to pick them up on the job
- Clear evidence of a self-taught skill or topic — a certification, project, or capability you pursued on your own initiative — demonstrating genuine drive to learn
- Attention to detail and sound judgment, with the ability to work methodically through information and know when to escalate
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including documenting reviews clearly
