Engineering Supervisor - Foundry Equipment

Job Description

The Foundry Equipment Engineering Supervisor is responsible for leading the design, specification, procurement, installation, launch, and operational support of foundry equipment and launch equipment for new and major vehicle programs. This role partners closely with suppliers, manufacturing operations, plant leadership, headquarters engineering, and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver safe, capable, cost-effective, and timely equipment solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead teams responsible for designing, specifying, procuring, and launching foundry equipment for new and major programs.
  • Develop Statements of Requirements (SORs) that meet process and manufacturing requirements.
  • Apply working knowledge of engineering and equipment specifications to evaluate technical solutions.
  • Review supplier proposals, including technical concepts, equipment design, and compliance with specifications.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with equipment suppliers, internal engineering disciplines, plant teams, and headquarters leadership.
  • Lead equipment design reviews and ensure alignment with program, process, safety, timing, and quality requirements.
  • Conduct equipment safety risk assessments and support safety validation activities.
  • Review equipment build progress, controls and logic development, timing, and adherence to specifications.
  • Conduct equipment runoffs and supplier buyoffs.
  • Support the development of equipment installation packages and provide technical support during installation.
  • Assist plant teams in resolving installation, launch, and operational issues.
  • Solve or support resolution of operational problems as required.
  • Actively partner with manufacturing operations to ensure equipment meets production needs.
  • Support deployment of common systems, methods, and standards defined in the Bill of Process and Bill of Equipment.
  • Drive continuous improvement in quality, cost, responsiveness, productivity, and safety.
  • Develop and manage complex project timing in Microsoft Project and integrate schedules into MasterDot.
  • Support process simulation, identify constraints, and optimize system-level performance.
  • Manage multi-million-dollar Appropriation Requests.
  • Forecast CTLF requirements for capital, operating expenses, bundled services, travel, and overtime.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least five years of experience purchasing, specifying, launching, or supporting high-volume manufacturing equipment.
  • Understanding of engineering theory and equipment design principles.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing operations, engineering processes, and industry best practices.
  • Technical knowledge and experience in process engineering disciplines.
  • Basic understanding of equipment specifications and launch deliverables.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement Global Manufacturing System (GMS) principles.
  • Experience developing complex project schedules using Microsoft Project and integrating them into MasterDot.
  • Experience with process simulation and resolving constraints to optimize system-level performance.
  • Experience managing multi-million-dollar capital appropriation requests.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with limited direct supervision.
  • Strong systems-thinking, analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve unusual or complex problems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working directly on a plant floor or in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in multiple manufacturing engineering assignments with demonstrated individual or team-based accomplishments.
  • Experience with casting processes and foundry equipment.
  • Experience using Practical Problem Solving, 7-Diamonds, Red X, or Operational Excellence methodologies.
  • Demonstrated people leadership skills.
  • Experience supporting equipment deployment and launch in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
