Summary
Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of scrap steel warehouse. Individual Group Leaders report directly to the site Operations Manager.
What You'll Do
- Ensures all plant employees conduct operations in a safe and efficient manner. Ensures all plant areas meet safety requirements.
- Monitors overall performance of receiving, inspection and shipping functions.
- Monitors and controls inventory, storage layout and design.
- Participates and provides leadership for preventative actions to reduce and/or eliminate waste and quality problems for stored product.
- Assists in establishing and maintaining work instructions, process procedures and standards for plant functions.
- Participates and provides leadership for the continuous improvement program (kaizen).
- Assists in developing self-sufficient preventative maintenance program.
- Assists in implementation and monitoring of GMI environmental matters.
- Prepares and presents various reports as requested by management.
- Promotes goodwill of company at all times.
- Assists with interviewing for plant positions.
- Makes recommendations to Operations Manager for training needs, performance reviews and any potential disciplinary actions involving team members.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages all subordinate in plant operations. Assists management with the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the plant operations department.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Makes recommendations regarding performance reviews, rewarding and disciplining employees.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCTATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Two year degree from a college or technical school; or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, quality manuals, operational procedure, work instructions and technical manuals. Ability to write process procedures, standards, work instructions, routine reports and business correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Ability to calculate percentages, area, circumference and volume and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to use various personal computer software (Microsoft Windows, Lotus Notes). Knowledge of metric system. Mechanically inclines Overhead Crane, License, Fork Lift License.

The employee is required to walk distances within the plant and the TMM plant.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
The employee is required to operate overhead crane in cabin attached to the crane at the height of 28” from the ground. The person with acrophobia is not qualified.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Proper safety equipment is required for work on the plant floor.
