Job Description:
The Transportation Router is responsible for reviewing and optimizing customer orders following each order cycle to develop efficient outbound shipping plans. The role reviews customer-requested delivery dates and adjusts order due dates, when appropriate, to create consolidation opportunities, maximize trailer utilization, and support transportation efficiency while protecting customer service requirements. The Transportation Router targets full truckload shipments and ensures routing decisions do not compromise service expectations for VIP and other priority customers.
Essential Duties:
- Reviews customer purchase orders submitted by Customer Service following the established order cycle close, including requested delivery dates, order weight, destinations, customer requirements, lead times, and applicable order cadence.
- Reviews and modifies order due dates, within approved customer and business parameters, to improve shipment consolidation and maximize trailer utilization without negatively impacting customer service.
- Develops and maintains optimized outbound routing plans based on customer delivery requirements, order volume, product availability, warehouse capacity, transit time, delivery appointments, warehouse shipping hours and stabilized transportation parameters.
- Identifies opportunities to consolidate orders by destination, geographic area, delivery schedule, and available lead time to improve transportation efficiency and reduce partially utilized truckloads.
- Communicates fulfillment status, updates, and delays to internal and external departments such as Warehouse, Demand Planning, Logistics, Sales, Customer Service and partner carriers.
- Targets truckload shipments of 40,000 lbs or greater whenever operationally feasible, balancing trailer utilization with customer requirements, product availability and service commitments.
- Protect delivery requirements for VIP and priority customers, ensuring that consolidation, due date adjustments or transportation mode decisions do not compromise established service expectations.
- Evaluates eligible shipments for intermodal rail conversion based on destination, transit time, and customer requirements to contribute to company transportation savings initiatives without compromising service.
- Identifies opportunities to optimize customer lead times and delivery schedules to support improved consolidation, reduce out-of-route miles and layovers, and improve overall transportation efficiency.
- Proactively identifies routing and scheduling constraints involving product availability, warehouse capacity, appointment availability, transit time, order volume, customer requirements, or other operational factors and recommends appropriate solutions.
- Coordinates routing changes, due-date adjustments, and exceptions with Customer Service, Warehouse, Planning, Transportation, Sales, and other applicable stakeholders.
- Tracks and reports transportation savings and cost-avoidance opportunities generated through order consolidation, trailer utilization, lead-time optimization, intermodal rail utilization, and other routing initiatives.
- Partners cross-functionally to identify and implement continuous-improvement opportunities related to routing, customer lead times, order patterns, warehouse capacity, trailer utilization, transportation modes, and shipping efficiency.

- Work Hours: M – F (7A-3P)
- Temp to Permanent
- Pay range: $25 -27
- Must be able to occasionally lift, push, pull and carry up to 45 lbs.
- Work Attire: Use good judgement, keeping in mind the nature of their work, their own safety and the safety of others, and their need to interact with the public.
- Involves frequent movement around the warehouse in a wet/humid environment, near moving mechanical parts and/or electrical equipment, and occasionally in a cold environment (30-40°F)
