Software Development Intern

Internship Program Mission:

To attract and engage undergraduate and graduate talent, including students pursuing advanced degrees for specialized roles, by providing meaningful internship opportunities at HAI Group that align with their fields of study and enable them to apply academic knowledge, theory, and skills in a practical workplace environment.

Internship Overview

As an intern on the IT Applications Development Team you will gain hands-on experience in the development and deployment of software programs to meet business needs. The software development intern will be exposed to new technologies and given the opportunity to learn and utilize them. You will work closely with a senior developer and will be assigned projects to either enhance an existing system or potentially develop a prototype to explore a new system. You will participate in agile design and planning session along with daily sprint standup sessions with others on the team.

This is a full-time, paid internship that is required to be on-site in the HAI Group office, located in Cheshire, CT, Monday–Friday. The internship program will run from May 31st– Mid August.

Essential Functions

• Work closely with a Tech Lead or developer and engage in development work for an existing system
• Work closely with an identified Tech Lead or developer to develop a prototype to solve a business problem
• Training on existing HAI systems and the underlying technologies in order to be effective

Job Requirements

Required:

• Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related degree, with an emphasis on software development.
• Strong understanding of fundamental programming concepts including variables, data types, conditional logic, looping, functions, data structures, object-oriented programming, debugging, and the use of libraries/modules. Experience developing software in a high-level language such as C#, Java, or Python is required.
• Ability to be on-site in the HAI Group office, located in Cheshire, CT, Monday–Friday
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Preferred:

• Prior work/internship experience experience
• Experience or exposure to common data formats (JSON, XML, CSV), relational databases (SQL), version control systems such as Git, and web development technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and REST APIs, is preferred.
• Exposure to technologies and practices such as C#/.NET, cloud platforms (Microsoft Azure), software testing, Agile development methodologies, and AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar) is a plus

$22—$25 USD
