Competitive Intelligence Lead — AI Software & Hardware (Edge AI)
Competitive Intelligence Lead — AI Software & Hardware (Edge AI)
Description -
The role
AI is redefining personal computing, and it is happening fastest at the edge — as inference, agents, and models move onto the device. This role owns HP Personal Systems' understanding of that shift: who is building it, who is winning, and what it means for our strategy.
You will lead a small, high-caliber team that keeps a live pulse on the entire PC Competitor portfolio and AI ecosystem across software and hardware, turns raw signal into sharp strategic insight, and briefs to several senior management levels from division strategy teams to division presidents and the PS president.
What you'll do
- Run deep, continuous competitor analysis. Build and maintain living intelligence on the core competitive set — Lenovo, Dell, Apple, Asus, Acer — and the emerging challengers, including Honor, Huawei, Xiaomi, and innovative smaller and regional players. Cover product roadmaps, AI positioning, go-to-market, partnerships, and overall pricing changes.
- Benchmark business and financial performance. Lead quarterly earnings analysis and business-performance comparison across the competitive set.
- Maintain POV on the AI ecosystem and edge-AI picture. Maintain a living map of the AI landscape across the full stack — models and software, devices, and the companies enabling AI at the edge. Develop and defend a point of view on which workloads are moving on-device, how fast, and who is driving the transition.
- Synthesize and influence at the executive level. The heart of the role. Convert findings into concise, decision-ready insight that connects each signal to a specific business risk or strategic implication. Package and communicate it, verbally and in writing to division strategy teams, division presidents, your SVP, and the PS president on a regular cadence.
- Anticipate, don't just report. Run scenario and war-gaming exercises to model likely competitor and ecosystem responses, and recommend HP's pre-emptive posture — moving the function from "what happened" to "what is about to happen and what we should do first."
- Maintain an emerging-threat radar. Provide early warning on the players that don't show up in a standard benchmark — startups, new form factors, agentic devices, and regional entrants — before they become obvious.
- Build the intelligence engine. Stand up AI-augmented tooling, data pipelines, and a shared knowledge base so the team delivers at a scale and speed a manual approach never could.
- Lead and develop the team. Manage, coach, and grow a team of four analysts. Set the research agenda, the quality bar, and the operating cadence, and develop your people into strong analysts and confident communicators. Team leadership is a central expectation of this role, not a side responsibility.
- Drive strategic direction for HP. Support Strategy and multiple business leaders with research, analysis, testing, and presentations on specific topics to support PS Strategy Projects
- Manage a team of 3-4 junior team members
What we're looking for
Must-haves
- 8+ years in competitive intelligence, corporate or competitive strategy, equity research, management consulting, or product/market strategy — ideally touching technology hardware, semiconductors, or software
- Strong working knowledge of the AI landscape across software and hardware models, on-device/edge AI, NPUs and accelerators, and the AI PC ecosystem with the curiosity and speed to close gaps quickly
- Financial and analytical fluency: you can read an earnings call and a 10-Q and pull out the story, and you are comfortable with unit economics, margins, and mix
- Exceptional communication — verbal above all. You can distill complexity into a clear narrative and hold the room with senior executives up to president level
- Strategic mindset: you connect disparate signals into insight and tie them to concrete business risk and strategic opportunity.
- Demonstrated people leadership: you have managed and developed analysts or associates, set direction, and raised a team's bar
- Executive presence and credibility with senior, cross-functional stakeholders.
Preferred
- Experience in the PC / client-device, semiconductor, or consumer-electronics industry.
- Familiarity with AI-augmented research tooling and LLM-based research workflows.

- MBA or a relevant advanced degree.
