Strong tax leadership helps Interstates manage risk, support business growth, and make informed financial decisions. As a Tax Manager, you’ll lead the company’s tax function and provide expertise across tax compliance, reporting, planning, and process improvement. You’ll partner with Accounting, Finance, Project Accounting, Operations, and external tax advisors to ensure tax requirements are met and tax-related processes are consistent and effective across the business.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the tax function, including processes, priorities, standards, and federal, state, and local tax compliance
  • Manage tax return preparation, review, filing, payments, documentation, notices, audits, and related requests
  • Serve as the internal subject matter expert for income, sales and use, property, franchise, and other transaction-based taxes
  • Partner with external tax advisors and internal teams to support tax compliance, planning, reporting, and risk management
  • Develop tax guidelines, decision frameworks, and tools to promote consistency across jurisdictions and business activities
  • Monitor tax laws, regulations, and nexus requirements and recommend needed process or reporting changes
  • Partner with Accounting, Finance, Project Accounting, AP, Supply Chain, Estimating, Payroll, and Operations to ensure accurate tax processes and data
  • Support tax accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, audits, and process improvements
  • Identify opportunities to improve tax systems, automation, reporting, and document management
  • Provide tax guidance and training to internal teams and direction to Tax Specialists, Analysts, and other tax team members

Knowledge & Expertise

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related field
  • 5–7 years of related tax experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax requirements
  • Experience with income, sales and use, property, and other transaction-based taxes
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate with internal teams and external tax advisors
  • Experience with tax audits, compliance, and process improvement preferred
  • Experience with tax systems, automation, or reporting tools preferred
  • CPA certification preferred

Location

Sioux Falls, SD; Sioux Center, IA; or Omaha, NE are preferred locations. Candidate must be located near an Interstates office.

Travel

Less than 10% travel is expected. Additional travel may be required for the selected individual based on location and business needs.
