Job Description
As a Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist I, you’ll be one of the behind-the-scenes heroes who help make excellent patient care possible. You’ll keep medical records secure, accurate, and organized — all while supporting doctors, nurses, billing teams, and patients alike.
From protecting privacy to powering research and supporting billing, your work keeps the hospital running smoothly. You’ll also be a key part of a friendly and collaborative HIM team — working alongside Specialists II–IV, supervisors, and other departments to keep things moving forward with a positive spirit.
If you’re a detail-driven problem solver who loves helping people, staying organized, and keeping things confidential — we’d love to meet you!
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Be the guardian of patient health records — ensuring they’re accurate, secure, and handled with care.
- Support smooth communication between departments by managing requests for medical records.
- Stay sharp on HIPAA, Joint Commission, CMS rules, and hospital policies — you’ll be our compliance champ.
- Keep the digital world in order by using EMRs and other tools (scanners, copiers, email, Outlook, etc.).
- Help the team analyze data for quality improvement and patient safety projects.
- Provide kind, responsive, and professional customer service to patients, families, and colleagues.
- Pitch in wherever needed to keep our HIM department running like a well-oiled machine.
What You Bring to the Table:
Must-Haves:
✅ High school diploma or equivalent ✅ Friendly and professional communication skills — written, spoken, and everything in between ✅ Great attention to detail and a love for staying organized ✅ Ability to juggle tasks and deadlines with ease ✅ Problem-solving skills and a willingness to learn ✅ Comfort with tech: Outlook, Word, PDFs, scanners, faxes, and other office gear ✅ Understanding of privacy rules and the importance of keeping patient info confidential
Nice-to-Haves (Bonus Points!):
✨ Experience with Cerner or Oracle EMR systems ✨ College-level medical terminology course (or equivalent knowledge) ✨ Speak, read, or write a second language ✨ AHIMA credentials (RHIT, RHIA, or micro-credentials)
Why You’ll Love It Here:
- You’ll join a passionate, supportive HIM team
- Every day is different — but always meaningful
- You’ll help improve lives by managing the information that powers patient care
- You’ll work in an environment that values respect, teamwork, and growth
Ready to bring your skills and your smile? Apply today and become a vital part of our Health Information Management team!
