The LSU AgCenter is making a bold investment in the future of agricultural innovation.

As part of the strategic vision of Louisiana Solutions, Global Impact, LSU Agriculture seeks entrepreneurial scientists to join a new Agricultural Intelligence (AI) Research Initiative focused on providing leading edge technological solutions to agricultural problems in order to improve productivity, profitability, resilience, and sustainability across Louisiana agriculture and natural resource systems.

We are seeking exceptional candidates for non-tenure track Assistant, Associate or Full Professor (Research) positions who are excited to work at the intersection of agriculture, technology and data science, engineering, economics, and human health.

Successful candidates will build fully funded independent research programs that address critical challenges in:

  • Soil health, land and water management
  • Crop genetics, plant breeding and plant health
  • Invasive species management
  • Precision and digital agriculture
  • Livestock production and management
  • Aquatics and wildlife management
  • Nutrition, health and food safety
  • Biofuels, feedstocks and bioproducts

The Agricultural Intelligence (AI) Research Initiative is a targeted investment in net new talent, research infrastructure, equipment, startup support, proposal development assistance, mentoring, and collaborative research networks. This initiative is not open to current employees of the LSU AgCenter.

Appointment

  • Non-tenure track, 12-month appointment
  • Initial two-year funding commitment, at which time the researcher should be fully self-funded

Qualification Requirements: Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in an agriculture discipline related to the critical challenges listed above and a record that demonstrates the ability to secure extramural funding in areas related to the position. Outstanding oral and written communication skills and excellent analytical and computational skills are needed.

Salary and: Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits package with a wide variety of benefit options. Benefits offered include retirement, multiple medical insurance options, supplemental insurances (dental, life, long-term disability, accident, vision, long-term care, etc.), Tax Saver Flexible Benefits Plan (saves tax dollars on some child care and medical expenses), university holidays (14 per year, typically includes a week off at Christmas), generous annual (vacation) and sick leave benefits, Employee Assistance Program, and possible educational leave and tuition exemption for coursework at campuses of the LSU System. Specific benefits depend on job category, percent effort and length of employment.

Anticipated Start Date: January 1, 2027, or upon completion of the selection process.

About the LSU Agricultural Center:

The LSU AgCenter, is one of eight campuses within the broader LSU enterprise (LSU System). The LSU AgCenter includes the Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station, which conducts agricultural-based research, and the Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service, which extends the knowledge derived from research to the people of the state. The AgCenter is headquartered in Baton Rouge and has 12 “on campus” academic departments and five regions which are made up of 15 branch research stations and an extension office in each parish.
