Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Software Engineer to help drive the modernization of our Enterprise Entitlements platform. This role will provide technical leadership in designing, developing, and delivering scalable, secure, cloud-native solutions that support identity, access, and authorization capabilities across Digital Banking.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and support enterprise-grade applications using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and modern UI frameworks.
- Lead implementation of cloud-native solutions leveraging Kubernetes, containers, and microservices architecture.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines supporting automated testing and deployment.
- Define and implement API and integration strategies across enterprise platforms.
- Partner with architects and security teams to implement authorization and policy-driven access controls.
- Contribute to service mesh architectures utilizing technologies such as Istio and Envoy.
- Author and maintain policy definitions using Rego/OPA (preferred).
- Mentor engineers and promote engineering excellence, resiliency, and operational best practices.
Education and Experience Required:
- Associate’s degree and a minimum of 7 years’ systems analysis and/or application development work experience or Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years' systems analysis and/or application development work experience. In lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 9 year’s education and/or relevant work experience, including a minimum of 5 years’ system analysis and/or application development work experience.
- Strong Java and Spring Boot expertise.
- Experience developing RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Angular and/or modern front-end development experience.
- Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud-native development experience.
- CI/CD pipeline implementation experience.
- Strong understanding of security, authentication, and authorization concepts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Rego/Open Policy Agent (OPA) experience.
- Digital Banking or Financial Services experience.
- Experience with Service Mesh technologies (Istio, Envoy).
- Identity and Access Management (IAM) background.

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $116,400.00 - $194,000.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
