This is a key leadership role, you'll report directly to our VP Engineering, own the data engineering function, and be responsible for building a world-class platform that powers insights and decision-making across Immersive. Your team currently works with a solid foundation of cloud infrastructure and modern tooling. Your mission is to modernize our architecture, elevate engineering practices, and grow a high-performing, inclusive team that becomes known for delivering reliable, scalable data solutions.
As a leader, you'll blend technical credibility with people leadership—mentoring engineers, setting vision, removing blockers, and advocating for data excellence across the organization. You'll partner closely with product, analytics, and commercial teams to ensure our data strategy drives real business impact.
Your main responsibilities:
As Senior Engineering Manager - Data Engineering, you will own the strategic direction and operational execution of our data engineering team. You'll balance people leadership with hands-on technical judgment (not daily coding). Typical responsibilities include:
- Lead and develop a talented team of 8+ data engineers, driving a culture of continuous learning, inclusion, and technical excellence through coaching, mentoring, and clear goal-setting
- Define and execute the data engineering strategy in close alignment with product and business priorities, driving the roadmap for modernization, architecture improvements, and platform reliability
- Champion the modernization of our data infrastructure evolving our cloud data warehouse, orchestration layer, and tooling to support scale, performance, and data quality
- Set and monitor clear team performance metrics, delivery timelines, and quality standards; ensure projects ship on schedule while maintaining high engineering standards
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, analytics engineering, and commercial teams, acting as the bridge between data engineering and the wider business
- Advocate for scalable, secure, and future-proof data solutions; guide adoption of modern data engineering best practices, frameworks, and tools across the team
- Represent the data engineering function in business forums and with senior leadership, articulating the near- and long-term value of investments in data infrastructure
- Build an inclusive, high-performing culture where diverse perspectives are valued and team members feel empowered to grow, innovate, and own their work
Sounds good? We’d love to hear from you if you have proven experience in the following areas (we know it’s tough, but please try to avoid the confidence gap. You don’t have to match all the listed requirements exactly to be considered for this role):
Success in this role depends most on your approach, leadership style, and potential for growth, we know no candidate is a perfect fit. (We also know about the confidence gap: you don't have to match all the listed requirements exactly to be considered for this role.)
You should apply if you have:
- Proven experience leading data engineering, analytics engineering, or platform teams (3+ years), with a strong coaching and mentorship style
- Deep understanding of modern data architectures, data integration best practices, orchestration patterns, and cloud-based data platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
- Technical credibility with data engineering practices: strong grasp of SQL, data modeling, pipeline design, and tools like dbt, Airflow, Fivetran, and similar
- Hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses (BigQuery, Redshift, or Snowflake); understanding of performance optimization, partitioning, and data quality patterns
- Ability to articulate data strategy and complex technical solutions simply to both technical and non-technical audiences—a true communicator
- Skilled at managing stakeholders, balancing competing priorities, and making data-driven decisions in a fast-moving environment
- Experience setting and executing data or technology strategy, with demonstrated success growing teams and measuring effectiveness through KPIs and business outcomes
- A collaborative, inclusive leader who values diverse perspectives, fosters psychological safety, and builds highly engaged, high-performing teams
- Comfortable with infrastructure-as-code concepts (Terraform, CloudFormation) and CI/CD practices, even if you're not implementing them daily
