Job Description:

Job Disclosures

Location: (On-site) Los Angeles, CA

Compensation: This is a non-exempt, hourly position. The hourly rate for this position is $28.75/hr. “Off-scale hourly rates” and other components of pay, i.e., an hourly rate that is higher than the published system-wide hourly rate at the designated position grade, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

Job Summary

At Meow Wolf, our Shift Supervisors are critical frontline leaders who ensure the daily magic runs smoothly. As the Manager on Duty (MOD), the Shift Supervisor supports operations across Guest Services, Retail, Food & Beverage, and Facilities, and serves as the on-site point of contact for our contracted security team. They act as a key connector between departments, provide onsite management to team members, and uphold safety, guest experience, and Meow Wolf values.

Shift Supervisors will also play a central role in building the operation ahead of our opening: supporting hourly hiring events, onboarding and training the frontline team, helping develop and refine operating procedures, and leading shifts through playtests, soft open, and grand opening.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable federal, California, and City of Los Angeles laws.
  • Serve as the Manager on Duty (MOD), acting as a visible and engaged leader who ensures safety, operational flow, and a high-quality guest experience throughout the exhibition, including evening, late-night, and event operations.
  • Operate the venue within the conditions of its Conditional Use Permit (CUP/CUB), including permitted operating hours, alcohol service requirements, and entertainment and event provisions, and ensure the team on shift does the same.
  • Provide on-the-floor coaching and support to hourly team members, promoting teamwork, accountability, and guest-first service.
  • Respond to operational issues, guest escalations, and minor emergencies, escalating when appropriate and handling sensitive matters with discretion and confidentiality.
  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for the third-party security vendor’s shift lead, coordinating incident response and escalating to the Safety & Security Manager as needed.
  • Monitor and manage hourly labor usage, shift transitions, and coverage to align with daily staffing plans and guest volume, adjusting in real time. Ensure all hourly team members receive timely, compliant meal and rest periods as required under California law.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully operational environment by overseeing exhibit readiness, cleanliness, lighting, sound, and general functionality. Escalate maintenance concerns and ensure the exhibit is show-ready at opening and close.
  • Support frontline operations by jumping in to assist with admissions, retail, food & beverage, and housekeeping tasks as needed.
  • Receive, unload, stock, and manage inventory levels to ensure smooth shift operations, including ice production and cold-storage rotation for F&B.
  • Enforce POS procedures and assist with end-of-day reporting and reconciliation.
  • Document and communicate shift updates, incidents, and operational issues to relevant departments using established reporting tools.
  • Foster cross-department collaboration and uphold Meow Wolf’s culture of belonging, creativity, and safety.
  • Lead staff training, onboarding, and mentoring following department SOPs, and contribute to the development of those SOPs during the pre-opening period.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of supervisory experience, preferably in a high-traffic guest-facing environment (museum, FEC, theme park, live entertainment venue, hospitality, etc.)
  • Experience across multiple operational functions such as customer service, retail, food service, or facilities
  • Strong communication, de-escalation, and leadership skills
  • Ability to stay calm, prioritize tasks, and lead by example in a fast-paced, unpredictable environment
  • Proficient with or willing to learn POS and scheduling platforms
  • Must be 21+ and able to obtain California Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification and a California Food Handler Card within 60 days of hire
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, late nights, weekends, and holidays
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred
