Lab Engineer, Hardware Infrastructure

Meta is building the hardware infrastructure that powers some of the world's most demanding computing environments. As a Lab Engineer on the Hardware Infrastructure team, you will support the physical lab environments used to validate, characterize, and qualify server, storage, and networking hardware at scale. In this role, you will work closely with hardware engineers, systems engineers, and operations teams to ensure lab facilities are reliable, well-instrumented, and capable of supporting rigorous infrastructure testing programs that directly influence Meta's data center hardware roadmap.

Responsibilities

• Set up, configure, and maintain lab environments for server, storage, and networking hardware validation and characterization
• Execute hardware bring-up, rack-and-stack operations, and cabling for test beds supporting infrastructure qualification programs
• Develop and maintain lab inventory systems, asset tracking processes, and equipment lifecycle documentation
• Collaborate with hardware and systems engineers to design test configurations that meet validation requirements for new infrastructure platforms
• Operate and troubleshoot lab instrumentation including power analyzers, thermal measurement tools, and network test equipment
• Support failure analysis workflows by isolating hardware defects, capturing diagnostic data, and coordinating with vendors on RMA processes
• Automate routine lab operations tasks using scripting to improve throughput and reduce manual overhead in test execution
• Maintain lab safety standards, physical security protocols, and environmental monitoring systems
• Coordinate lab scheduling and resource allocation across concurrent hardware validation programs to maximize utilization

Minimum Qualifications

• Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience. Degree must be completed prior to joining Meta
• 2+ years of experience in a hardware lab, data center operations, or systems integration environment
• 2+ years of hands-on experience with server, storage, or networking hardware including rack installation, cabling, and hardware bring-up
• Experience using lab instrumentation such as power meters, oscilloscopes, or thermal measurement tools in a hardware validation context
• Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automating lab tasks or processing test data
• Experience reading and interpreting hardware schematics, technical specifications, or component datasheets
• Ability to travel 20% of the time, supporting large scale NPI deployments in Meta data centers globally

Preferred Qualifications

• Exposure to IPMI, BMC, or out-of-band management interfaces for server hardware monitoring and control
• Experience with lab management or asset tracking systems used to manage large-scale hardware inventories
• Experience supporting hardware qualification or characterization programs in a hyperscale data center or hardware OEM environment
• Familiarity with network configuration and diagnostics for Ethernet or InfiniBand infrastructure in lab settings

US: $118,000/year to $170,000/year + bonus + equity
