JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
MCC’s Continuing Education Division is seeking enthusiastic and knowledgeable Animal Instructors to provide engaging, hands-on learning opportunities for members of our community. The Animal Instructor will be responsible for developing and delivering safe, informative, and practical non-credit courses focused on animal care, behavior, training, enrichment, and related topics. Instructors should create an engaging learning environment that encourages participants to develop their knowledge, skills, and confidence while promoting responsible and compassionate animal ownership.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with animals in a professional, educational, veterinary, shelter, training, or animal care setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of animal behavior, handling, training, care, and welfare.
- Experience teaching, facilitating workshops, leading demonstrations, or presenting educational programs to diverse audiences.
- Ability to develop engaging, hands-on, and accessible course content for adult learners and community members.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain animal-related concepts clearly and effectively.
- Experience working with dogs, cats, or other companion animals, depending on the course subject.
- Relevant certifications, professional training, or education in animal behavior, training, veterinary care, animal science, or a related field.
- Commitment to humane, ethical, and safety-focused animal handling practices.
- Ability to create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for participants with varying levels of experience.
- Current professional credentials or certifications related to the subject area are preferred, when applicable.
- This position will have random teaching opportunities throughout the year.
- MCC holds classes at multiple locations throughout the Metro area including Fremont and Blair.
- Most classes are held weeknights and weekends.
