Provides accounting services as a member of General Accounting.
Job Description
The Staff Accountant, Capital provides accounting services as a part of General Accounting supporting management of physical fixed assets and debt accounting. Prepares journal entries and various reports for the University. Actively involved in the monthly and annual close of the general ledger and providing support to the University audit. Prepares accurate and timely general ledger account reconciliation each month.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform monthly and year-end close of the general ledger. Create, record and approve various journal entries.
- Work closely with the Sr. Accountant, Fixed Assets to track and update capital expenditures during the year and capitalize expenses as approved.
- Perform a physical inspection of University assets on an annual basis.
- Track University leases (lessee and lessor) and prepare annual journal entries in accordance with lease accounting guidance.
- Set up and monitor University projects. Process procurement invoices related to capital projects.
- Assist with the preparation of footnote disclosures for the annual audit.
- Work closely with the Sr. Accountant, Fixed Assets to track and record transactions related to University bonds and debt.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or General Business
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Active CPA license, or have met qualifications to sit for CPA exam
- Experience with ERP software system(s)
- Experience with fund accounting
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Proficient with Excel (logic formulas, V/H Lookups, pivot tables, etc.) and other analytical software
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), analytical, time management and organizational skills
- Knowledge of GAAP and accrual based accounting
- Ability to work independently and within constraints of deadlines
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of FASB and/or GASB guidance
