Full Time Cook l

Must be able to work varying shifts and a rotating weekends between:

5:00am - 7:30pm

Purpose: The Cook I prepares and cooks meals for patients, staff, and visitors in accordance with standardized recipes, dietary restrictions, food safety regulations, and hospital quality standards. This position ensures meals are prepared on time, meet nutritional requirements, and contribute to a positive dining experience while maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen environment.

Food Preparation & Production

· Prepare, season, and cook a variety of foods, including meats, vegetables, soups, sauces, and desserts according to standardized recipes.

· Follow therapeutic and special diet requirements as prescribed by registered dietitians.

· Portion and serve food according to established guidelines.

· Ensure food quality, taste, appearance, and temperature standards are met.

· Assist with meal assembly and tray line operations as needed.

Food Safety & Sanitation

· Adhere to all hospital, state, and federal food safety regulations, including HACCP standards.

· Monitor and document food temperatures during preparation, holding, and service.

· Maintain a clean and sanitary work area, equipment, and utensils.

· Properly store, label, and rotate food products following FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.

Inventory & Equipment

· Assist with receiving, inspecting, and storing food deliveries.

· Report equipment malfunctions and maintenance needs promptly.

· Minimize food waste through accurate preparation and portion control.

· Operate commercial kitchen equipment safely and effectively.

Teamwork & Customer Service

· Collaborate with dietary staff, supervisors, and healthcare team members to meet patient nutritional needs.

· Respond professionally to special meal requests and dietary modifications.

· Support a positive and respectful work environment.

Minimum Qualifications

· High school diploma or GED required.

· One (1) year of experience in food preparation, institutional cooking, healthcare, hospitality, or restaurant settings preferred.

· Knowledge of food preparation methods, cooking techniques, and food safety practices.

· Ability to read and follow recipes, menus, and production sheets.

· Ability to work weekends, holidays, and flexible shifts as required.

Preferred Qualifications

· Previous hospital, healthcare, long-term care, or institutional food service experience.

· Food Handler Certification or ServSafe Certification.

· Experience preparing therapeutic or modified diets.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Knowledge of food sanitation regulations and infection prevention practices.

· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

· Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

· Effective communication and teamwork skills.

· Ability to maintain consistency and quality under time constraints.

Physical Requirements

· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

· Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.

· Frequent bending, reaching, stooping, and carrying food products and equipment.

· Ability to work in a hot, humid kitchen environment.

Work Environment

· Hospital kitchen and food production areas.

· Exposure to kitchen equipment, cleaning chemicals, and temperature variations.

· Requires compliance with all hospital safety, infection control, and confidentiality policies.
