The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters!
Description of Work
This position is located at Maury Correctional Institution in Hookerton, NC. Maury Correctional Institution is a close-custody prison housing male offenders. The facility is designed to house a maximum capacity of 1500 offenders. This position provided administrative assistance and office management services for the Associate Warden for Programs and the Program Director as needed.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
The position is responsible for correspondence and record management,
managing/updating organizational charts, filing, telephone responsibilities, as well as greeting official visitors and staff. This position will be expected to track a number of different issues using spreadsheets and to exercise good reasoning and analytical skills. This position processes documents and correspondence from rough drafts and independent composition. Primary functions of this position involve public contact by making and receiving telephone calls, directing staff, processing incoming and outgoing mail. This position maintains a calendar of periodic reports and handles some sensitive and confidential information. This position is responsible for updating and maintaining manuals, directories and files. Special projects and aiding other staff in the Program Sections will sometimes be required. This position uses the Mainframe database (OPUS), as well as OPUS on the Web. This position is required to order supplies and keep an accurate inventory of supplies. This position will also assist Program staff with program events.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Range: $ 31,200 - $51,249

The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
· Effective in communication verbal and written form, write reports and maintain accurate records.
· Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office programs
· Knowledge of clerical/secretarial skills
· Must be or willing to become a Notary

If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase May result.
About the Division of Institutions:
The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.
