It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. This event will double as a Hiring Event for our Department. We will be offering jobs on the spot to qualified candidates applying for Correctional Food Service Officer positions.

Classifications Available:

Correctional Food Service Officer I - Minimum Custody

Offenders require limited supervision and may leave cells at certain times of the day.

Step Plan Range: $33,902 - $59,327 Salary Grade: NC05

Correctional Food Service Officer II - Medium Custody

Offenders require a moderate level of supervision.

Step Plan Range: $35,596 - $62,294 Salary Grade: NC06

Correctional Food Service Officer III - Close Custody

Offenders require constant supervision and have heavily controlled movement.

Step Plan Range: $37,377 - $65,408

Salary Grade: NC07

REQUIREMENTS

To be considered for a Correctional Officer position, ALL applicants must meet Criminal Justice Standards Requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302).

HIRING BONUS

Hires may be eligible for a $3,000 Sign on Bonus.

If you were referred by a current Department of Adult Corrections employee, they may qualify for a $1,000 referral bonus. Enter their name in the referral section of your application.

WORK SCHEDULE

Employees must be able to work any shift including rotating, fixed shift, or split shift. All shifts may include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime as required.

Trainee Progression Candidate Consideration

If fully qualified applicants are unavailable, candidates may be considered for trainee appointments. Trainee salaries may begin below the posted range and increase as minimum qualifications are obtained in accordance with State policy.

Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT)

All new hires must complete six weeks of Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT). This may require overnight weekday stay at training facility. Room and board is provided, and transportation is available upon request.

Veterans’ and National Guard Preference

• Applicants seeking Veteran's Preference must attach a DD-214 Member-4 Form (Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty) to their applications.
