The Environmental Policy Unit provides an essential role in NCDOT’s Preconstruction Division, working across our divisions and modes to help achieve regulatory compliance, accountability, and environmental sensitivity for the citizens of North Carolina.
We are looking for a dynamic NEPA Program Consultant to work in our Raleigh office. This is a position that helps us lead NCDOT’s environmental compliance efforts statewide.
In the role you will:
•Review project documentation. •Provide guidance for the efficient development of projects and sound environmental decision-making. •Provide technical training (formal/informal) to environmental and engineering practitioners. •Streamline NEPA/SEPA tasks to inform and enhance departmental knowledge of regulatory and NEPA/SEPA best practices. •Work with a team to implement improvements that enhance compliance and streamline project delivery. •Participate in interagency meetings to support project advancement through the 404/NEPA Merger Process. •Coordinate with other NCDOT technical disciplines to ensure project compliance and delivery. •Pursue environmental streamlining opportunities throughout project planning and design. •Ensure that decisions and supporting analyses are adequately presented in project-specific environmental documentation. •Coordinate cross-discipline to ensure documents contain sufficient analysis to support project decisions and can be relied upon for permit issuance by regulatory agencies.
Must be able to legally operate a motor vehicle.

Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC18 $63,927 - $111,871

Master's degree in one of the agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
