Associate, Valuations

Position Overview

Obra Capital is seeking an Associate, Valuations to support the firm's independent valuation function across its diverse asset classes, including private credit, structured products, insurance-linked investments, and whole loans. The ideal candidate combines strong financial modeling skills with a rigorous analytical mindset and an interest in alternative asset management. This person will work closely with investment, finance, and risk teams to ensure accurate, timely, and defensible valuations in accordance with applicable accounting standards and investor expectations.

Responsibilities

• Perform ongoing fair value assessments for a portfolio of private credit, structured credit, insurance-linked, and other alternative investments.
• Build and maintain valuation models utilizing relevant methodologies including discounted cash flow, comparable company analysis, yield-based analysis, and third-party pricing inputs.
• Prepare quarterly valuation memoranda and supporting documentation for review by senior management, auditors, and fund administrators.
• Coordinate with external valuation specialists and pricing vendors; review and challenge third-party marks.
• Support the audit process by responding to auditor inquiries and providing valuation support documentation.
• Monitor market data, credit spreads, interest rates, and relevant benchmarks to inform valuation assumptions.
• Assist in developing and refining valuation policies, procedures, and controls in line with ASC 820 and other applicable standards.
• Collaborate with portfolio management, fund accounting, and investor relations teams on valuation-related inquiries and reporting.
• Support ad hoc analysis and special projects related to new investment structures or product launches.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in valuations, credit analysis, or a related finance role; Big 4 valuation advisory, investment banking, or alternative asset management experience preferred.
• Working knowledge of ASC 820 / fair value accounting standards.
• Experience valuing illiquid or complex instruments such as loans, ABS, CLOs, or insurance-related assets is a plus.
• Strong financial modeling skills in Excel; experience with Bloomberg or other market data platforms.
• Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Collaborative team player with clear written and verbal communication skills.
• CFA candidate or charterholder preferred; CPA a plus.
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field required.

Compensation:

The expected base salary range for this role is outlined below. In addition to the base salary, total compensation may include a discretionary bonus based on performance. This range given is a best faith estimate which reflects a variety of factors, including years of relevant experience, education, location and other qualifications pertinent to the position. Base salary does not include any other performance based compensation such as year end cash bonus.

Salary Range

$100,000—$130,000 USD
