Job Description:

This recruitment will be used to fill a position for multilingual communication. This position is part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) for the Division of extension and Engagement (https://extension.oregonstate.edu) at Oregon State University (OSU).

The Undergraduate Student Outreach Assistant performs a variety of work related to outreach programs, including assistance at camps, youth programs, nutrition and education programs, and physical activity courses.

The Access, Compliance, and Inclusive Innovation unit leads efforts to ensure equitable access to university Extension and Engagement programs and services, foster inclusive innovation, and uphold compliance with civil rights and accessibility standards. As a team member, the HGPA will work collaboratively to advance language access initiatives.

Position Duties:

60% Language Access Program Support

  • Assist with the development and implementation of language access strategies, including translation and interpretation coordination.
  • Assist with the development of content for multilingual services technologies and governance.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of multilingual resources and materials.
  • Help track and assess language access needs across university programs.
  • Assist with data collection and reporting related to language access services and usage.
  • Contribute to the development of training and guidance materials for staff and faculty on language access best practices.

20% Project Coordination and Administrative Support

  • Provide logistical and administrative support for language access-related projects and initiatives.
  • Create a bilingual glossary of terms for Extension and Engagement.
  • Assist with scheduling, meeting coordination, and documentation.
  • Support the planning and execution of workshops, trainings, and events related to language access and inclusive communication.
  • Maintain organized records and assist with project tracking and reporting.
  • Maintain the translated documents library up to date.

20% Communication and Outreach

  • Assist with updating and maintaining the unit’s language access web content.
  • Contribute to internal and external communications about language access resources and initiatives.
  • Support outreach efforts to promote awareness and engagement with language access services.

10% Other Duties as Assigned

  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Support other unit initiatives as needed, particularly those related to access and inclusion.

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term* Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Required Qualifications:

  • Student in good academic standing at Oregon State University.
  • Demonstrated interest in language access, equity, or inclusive communication.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English/Spanish
  • Culturally fluent in the Latine/Hispanic community context
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with Zoom and other virtual meeting platforms.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with translation, interpretation, or language access coordination.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and inclusive design.
  • Experience with website content management systems (e.g., Drupal).
  • Experience working in higher education or public service settings.

Working Conditions/Schedule:

• The Access, Compliance, and Inclusive Innovation unit at Oregon State University invites applications for an Hourly Graduate Project Assistant (HGPA) to support our language access efforts. • This is a part-time position, approximately 15–20 hours per week. • The schedule is flexible and hybrid schedule is possible. However, there is space available in 108 for student worker.
