Senior Director, Data Science, Core Insurance & Network

Hi, we're Oscar. We're hiring a Senior Director of Core Insurance & Network to join our Data Science team.

About the role:

The Senior Director of Data Science, Core Insurance & Network leads data science across Oscar’s Core Insurance and Network businesses, including Claims, Authorization Services, Pharmacy, Payment Integrity, and Network. This leader sets strategy across multiple teams, develops leaders, and partners across the business and technology organization, including Analytics, Engineering, and Product, to improve affordability, operational performance, and member and provider experience. As a member of Data’s senior leadership team, they own portfolio priorities, organizational health, and impact.

You will report into the VP, Data.

Work Location: This position is based in either our New York City office, Los Angeles office, Tempe Office, or can sit remotely in San Fransisco, Boston, Dallas, or Atlanta markets. If you live in the NYC, LA, or Tempe markets, this will be a hybrid work schedule with 3 days of in-office work per week. Thursdays are a required in-office day for team meetings and events, while your other two office days are flexible to suit your schedule. #LI-Hybrid

Pay Transparency: The base pay for this role is: $240,120- $315,158 per year. You are also eligible for employee benefits, participation in Oscar's unlimited vacation program, company equity grants, and annual performance bonuses.

Responsibilities:

• Set the strategy, roadmap, outcomes, and resource allocation for the Core Insurance and Network data science portfolio.
• Lead a multi-team organization through managers and senior technical leaders; develop talent, plan succession, and build an inclusive, high-performing culture.
• Partner with leaders across the technology organization and across Core Insurance and Network to align priorities and resolve tradeoffs.
• Own measurable portfolio impact, applying analytics, experimentation, statistical methods, and machine learning to improve affordability, operational performance, and member and provider experience.
• Guide the delivery of scalable, reliable, and explainable data science solutions embedded in business workflows, while upholding standards for rigor, governance, privacy, security, and compliance.
• Establish clear decision rights, planning cadences, and ownership for cross-team work, including care navigation and cost-estimation capabilities.
• Define success measures and communicate progress, risks, resource needs, and impact to executives; help shape Data strategy and technical standards.
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

• 12+ years of experience in data science, analytics, or another quantitative field, including setting strategy and delivering cross-functional data products or programs.
• 8+ years of experience using SQL and Python, R, or another analytical language to analyze large, complex datasets.
• 8+ years of experience applying advanced analytics, experimentation, statistical modeling, machine learning, or large-scale data processing to business decisions.
• 7+ years of experience working with data in healthcare
• 7+ years working in a complex environment and managing interactions with multiple cross-functional stakeholders (business, product, engineering, etc.)
• 5+ years of people management experience, including leading managers and multiple data science or analytics teams.

Bonus points:

• Master’s or Ph.D. in a quantitative or technical field, or equivalent applied experience.
• Leadership experience in health insurance or another regulated industry; experience in claims, authorization, pharmacy, payment integrity, provider networks, care navigation, or cost estimation is especially valuable.

Pay Transparency: Final offer amounts, within the base pay set forth above, are determined by factors including your relevant skills, education, and experience.
