The Industrial Electrical Infrastructure (IEI) Lab Technician performs electrical, mechanical, environmental, and materials testing activities that support product development, certification, and quality initiatives. Working closely with engineers and lab leadership, this role independently conducts testing projects, assists in developing test methods and fixtures, analyzes results, and serves as a technical resource for troubleshooting issues.
In addition to supporting the Lockport Lab, this position provides testing support for materials and extrusion activities in Tinley Park, making it a dynamic, cross-functional opportunity
What You Will Do
- Perform electrical, mechanical, environmental, and materials testing in accordance with UL, ASTM, and internal standards.
- Conduct tensile, compression, pull-out, torque, impact, and other mechanical tests to evaluate product performance and reliability.
- Design fixtures and test setups for standard and specialized testing requirements.
- Develop, document, and improve laboratory test methods and procedures.
- Follow and promote safe, efficient laboratory practices.
- Define test requirements, coordinate setups, and execute testing independently.
- Analyze data, prepare technical reports, and participate in engineering reviews.
- Troubleshoot test equipment, instrumentation, and product-related issues.
- Maintain equipment, calibration schedules, and preventive maintenance programs.
- Support UL audits and activities required to maintain laboratory certification and testing designation.
- Assist with materials characterization and extrusion testing to support manufacturing and product development.
What You Will Bring
- Education: High school diploma required, Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Experience: 5-7 years of laboratory testing experience in product certification, quality, manufacturing, or product development environments, ability to follow test procedures, experience with UL, mechanical, electrical, and environmental testing, hands-on experience with tensile, compression, torque, pull-out, impact, and other mechanical testing methods, experience with testing cable, connectors, or electrical infrastructure products preferred.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of laboratory operations, calibration practices, and test equipment, familiarity with UL, ASTM, and ISO standards., mechanical aptitude with experience troubleshooting equipment and developing test solutions, knowledge of fixture design, force measurement systems, and data acquisition tools, proficiency with Microsoft Excel and laboratory software, knowledge of American Wire Gauge (AWG) preferred.

Compensation: The expected base pay range for this role is $25 - $30 an hour. Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
