THE ROLE
As an AI Engineer Intern in Summer 2027, you will contribute to the development and deployment of artificial intelligence and intelligent software solutions across Oshkosh’s engineering and product platforms.
Depending on your experience, interests, and project assignment, you may work in areas such as machine learning, computer vision, edge AI, embedded systems, vehicle intelligence, connectivity, or software-defined vehicle technologies. You’ll collaborate with engineering and technology teams to develop, test, and integrate intelligent solutions into real-world products and applications.
YOUR IMPACT
As an AI Engineer Intern, your responsibilities may include:
- Designing, training, evaluating, and deploying machine learning and AI models on GPU servers, cloud platforms, or edge devices
- Processing and analyzing structured and unstructured datasets, including imagery and sensor data
- Developing data pipelines and model deployment workflows from cloud to edge
- Integrating AI/ML models into applications, embedded systems, electronic control units (ECUs), or vehicle platforms
- Assisting in the development of software modules supporting vehicle intelligence, connectivity, automation, and advanced features
- Testing embedded and AI-enabled applications across hardware, vehicle networks, and software environments
- Using simulation environments and testing frameworks to validate algorithms, models, and system functionality
- Conducting experiments and benchmarking algorithms for performance, accuracy, and efficiency
- Supporting software integration, over-the-air (OTA) capabilities, and vehicle software lifecycle activities
- Participating in code reviews, technical discussions, system architecture development, and innovation activities
- Documenting system designs, test procedures, model behavior, performance metrics, and experimental results
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, or a related technical field
- Coursework or experience in one or more of the following areas: artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, embedded systems, software development, or statistics
- Programming experience with Python, C++, or other relevant programming or scripting languages
- Familiarity with Linux environments
- Interest in applying AI and software technologies to real-world engineering and product challenges
- Willingness to travel or relocate to Oshkosh, WI for the summer internship (Housing provided for interns living more than 50 miles from the work location)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience or exposure to one or more of the following is a plus:
- Machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn
- Computer vision and image processing
- GPU or NPU computing
- Edge AI and model optimization/deployment
- Embedded software and embedded computing platforms
- Vehicle communication technologies such as CAN
- AUTOSAR or automotive software architectures
- Vehicle connectivity and software-defined vehicle concepts
- Cloud-to-edge architectures and data pipelines
- Simulation, testing, or automated validation frameworks
Pay Range:
$18.00 - $37.00
The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
