Job Description:
Overview:
This position works primarily in the field as a Party Chief of a two- or three-person field crew, taking on leadership and advanced technical responsibilities for mid to large-scale survey projects.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and direction to field crew members, ensuring efficient and accurate survey operations.
- Serve as the primary point of contact between the field crew and Project Manager, supervisor, or office staff.
- Plan and execute fieldwork, including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, and construction staking, adhering to project requirements.
- Perform advanced mathematical calculations and verify the accuracy of field data collected by the crew.
- Train and mentor field crew members in advanced surveying techniques, equipment operation, and safety protocols.
- Review and interpret civil and construction plans and specifications, identifying potential issues and proposing solutions.
- Maintain and calibrate field equipment to ensure reliable operation and minimize downtime.
- Conduct quality control checks to ensure field data meets organizational and project standards before submission.
- Collaborate with project stakeholders to develop and execute detailed survey plans.
- Adapt to changing priorities and deadlines while ensuring the completion of tasks to the highest standard.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED certification.
- 10+ years of experience.
- Extensive experience with boundary, topographic, and construction staking, including managing large-scale projects.
- Advanced proficiency in operating and troubleshooting Leica Total Stations, Robotic Total Stations, and GPS equipment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of survey principles, measurement errors, monumentation, and construction practices.
- Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring and overseeing multiple teams and projects.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven ability to research and implement emerging technologies and practices in surveying.
