You will lead work involving web handling, unwinding and rewinding, tension control, winding, slitting, splicing, and in-line inspection systems. This role requires an onsite presence in Rochester, New York, and up to 25% travel.

What you get to do

  • Lead the day-to-day work, priorities, and resource planning of the roll-to-roll engineering team.

  • Plan and direct multidisciplinary engineering projects from concept through installation and validation.
  • Lead the design of rollers, nip systems, tension-control zones, web guides, splicing and slitting stations, and winding equipment.
  • Troubleshoot web-handling issues such as wrinkles, surface damage, traction concerns, and tension instability.
  • Direct testing, root-cause analysis, and validation to improve equipment safety, quality, and reliability.
  • Create engineering calculations, design standards, technical documentation, and drawing packages.
  • Develop project plans, schedules, proposals, cost estimates, and risk-mitigation strategies.
  • Partner with clients and internal teams to understand needs, communicate recommendations, and identify new opportunities.
  • Promote safe design and work practices throughout every project phase.

What you bring to the team

  • A bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, chemical, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Seven or more years of engineering experience with roll-to-roll web handling or conveyance systems.
  • Experience designing or troubleshooting tension-control systems, unwind and rewind equipment, rollers and nip systems, web guiding, splicing, slitting, or in-line inspection systems.
  • Five or more years of experience using SolidWorks or a comparable 3D CAD platform.
  • Experience delivering complex, multidisciplinary engineering projects from concept through completion.
  • The ability to analyze technical data, identify root causes, manage risk, and communicate with technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • The ability to travel up to 25%.

Preferred qualifications include experience leading technical teams; knowledge of servo-driven tension or torque control; and familiarity with FEA, CFD, ISO 9001, Lean, Six Sigma, value-stream mapping, or project-management software. A Professional Engineer license or eligibility for licensure is also preferred.
