Position Purpose:
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining, cleaning, and repairing the Aspen Maintenance Facility (AMF), Glenwood Maintenance Facility (GMF), and other RFTA facilities as needed. This position ensures a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment to support daily operations.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive.
- Perform various cleaning tasks, including but not limited to cleaning restrooms, refilling dispensers and paper products, cleaning office/workspaces, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, removing garbage, washing windows, dusting, and cleaning refrigerators in lounge areas.
- Utilize the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) system to track and log time spent on daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning and maintenance tasks.
- Execute deep cleaning projects as directed by the supervisor, ensuring thorough sanitation of facility spaces.
- Operate facility maintenance vehicles in compliance with RFTA policies, procedures, and all relevant federal and state traffic laws and regulations.
- During the winter season, shovel snow and perform other snow-removal tasks around the facility as needed to ensure safe access and egress.
- Safely control, contain, and clean up hazardous materials in accordance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
- Document and track the completion of daily tasks and special projects in the EAM system, with regular review by the supervisor.
- Complete other related duties as assigned to meet the operational needs of the facilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong adherence to personal, departmental, and organizational goals and performance standards.
- Basic computer proficiency and data entry skills.
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others and follow the RFTA code of conduct.
- Ability to read, comprehend, and follow instructions from safety data sheets (SDS), product labels, employee safety manuals, and emergency procedure documents.
- Expertise in safely operating cleaning and maintenance equipment.
- In-depth knowledge of safe material handling and maintenance practices.
- Solid understanding of basic routine maintenance and repair methods.
- Physical capability to perform manual tasks and duties as required.
- Strong communication skills to follow and give instructions, as well as to work with colleagues and supervisors.
- Strong communication and writing skills in English.
- Basic Spanish proficiency is a plus.
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License required.
Qualifications:
Education
- Ability to read, write, and understand English.
Experience
- Previous experience in facility maintenance, cleaning, or a related field is preferred, demonstrating the ability to effectively perform essential job functions.
Working Conditions:
The position requires moderate physical work. Heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds and/or up to 20 pounds frequently. Works in a typical industrial environment that requires frequent bending, lifting and twisting in different positions to accomplish many tasks. Encounters exposure to moving equipment and vehicles, and related fumes and chemicals. Works in all weather conditions, at varied shifts. May come in contact with bodily fluids on a regular basis. Works on a regular basis with hazardous and toxic materials while strictly adhering to all safety rules and regulations pertaining to their use, storage, and proper disposal. Personal protective equipment is provided and must be worn when appropriate.
RFTA has a Uniform Policy for the Facilities Maintenance team. Custodian is expected to adhere to this policy.
