Job Title: Sr. Pharmacy Technician
Location: Unity Hospital
Department: Inpatient Pharmacy
Hours Per Week: 40 Hours, Full-time
Schedule: Days, Evenings & Rotating Weekends
Summary The Senior Pharmacy Technician assists Pharmacists in preparation, distribution, and record-keeping functions in the delivery of medications to patients in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. The Senior Pharmacy Technician has demonstrated excellence in central pharmacy operations or a specialized area of Pharmacy (i.e., sterile compounding, controlled substance management, clinical functions, or inventory management), providing advanced knowledge and experience in pharmacy.
Key Responsibilities:
- **Same Responsibilities as Operations, Specialty, or Clinical Pharmacy Technician, as well as the following (specific duties may vary by location)
- Take an advanced role in inventory control, including ordering, stock rotation, and return of outdated medications
- May aid in Narcotic diversion investigations if working in an area where these medications are present.
- Demonstrates leadership qualities
- Advanced troubleshooting and repair of equipment
- Creates process improvement initiatives, safety initiatives and/or helps to identify methods/ideas to improve upon current policies.
- Actively participates in basic and advanced training of new employees
- Monitors and helps to enforce regulatory standards
- Demonstrates the ability to prioritize, remain calm, and work well under demanding conditions.
- Routinely communicates safety concerns to pharmacists
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED
- Excellent oral and written communication skills for routine interaction with inter- and intra-departmental staff, patients, and visitors
- Advanced Certificate in Specialty area or equivalent experience in specialty area (min of 2 years’ experience in specialty area)
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years of pharmacy experience, including experience within any specialized area
Required Licensure / Certification Skills:
- National Pharmacy Technician Certification
- NYS Pharmacy Technician Registration

Moderate - Clinical - Moderate clinical roles are patient facing roles that require continual movement, including standing, walking, and lifting 20–50 lbs., along with pushing and pulling medical equipment and assisting with patient positioning. Employees perform frequent bending, twisting, and reaching while completing fine motor tasks in busy or confined clinical environments. High sensory acuity is essential for monitoring patient status and responding to alarms or safety concerns. Emotional and cognitive demands are substantial, involving decision-making under pressure, responding to emergencies, and maintaining sustained focus. Environmental exposures include infectious agents, bodily fluids, chemicals, and radiation. TB testing, mask-fit testing, and physical exams are common requirements.
