Who we are
Aurora’s mission is to deliver the benefits of self-driving technology safely, quickly, and broadly.
The Aurora Driver will create a new era in mobility and logistics, one that will bring a safer, more efficient, and more accessible future to everyone.
At Aurora, you will tackle massively complex problems alongside other passionate, intelligent individuals, growing as an expert while expanding your knowledge. For the latest news from Aurora, visit aurora.tech or follow us on LinkedIn.
What we are looking for
Aurora hires talented people with diverse backgrounds who are ready to help build a transportation ecosystem that will make our roads safer, get crucial goods where they need to go, and make mobility more efficient and accessible for all.
We're searching for a Senior Network Engineer (P6) to join our Network Engineering team. This is a senior individual contributor role for an experienced engineer who can own network architecture and operations end to end. You'll design, build, and scale the networks that keep Aurora running — from corporate offices to third-party factories and Aurora Truck Terminal facilities.
You'll set technical direction for the environments you own, lead complex deployments, resolve the hardest connectivity challenges at scale, and raise the bar for engineers around you.
In this role you will
- Design, deploy, and operate network infrastructure (switches, routers, wireless access points, and firewalls) across Aurora's offices, third-party manufacturing sites, and Aurora Truck Terminal facilities, owning projects from architecture through implementation.
- Lead enterprise network security implementations, including 802.1X and ClearPass Policy Manager (or equivalent NAC solutions), network segmentation, and firewall policy design.
- Own monitoring, alerting, and capacity planning for the network, and drive incident response, root cause analysis, and follow-through on complex connectivity issues.
- Architect and scale LAN, WLAN, and VPN environments, making design decisions across routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), switching, and VLAN and segmentation strategy.
- Build and maintain network automation and Infrastructure as Code using Python, CI/CD pipelines, and source of truth tooling to eliminate manual work and enforce configuration consistency.
- Establish and maintain network standards and documentation, including reference architectures, diagrams, IP address management (IPAM), and operational runbooks.
- Partner with IT, Security, and other engineering teams to scope and deliver network requirements for new sites, launches, and terminal buildouts, often on aggressive timelines.
- Mentor engineers earlier in their careers, review designs and change requests, and help shape the technical direction and operational standards of the team.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and support planned maintenance windows in support of a 24/7 operation.
Required qualifications
- 8+ years of experience designing, deploying, and operating enterprise or campus networks in production environments.
- Deep expertise in networking fundamentals and protocols: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, subnetting, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, spanning tree, and QoS.
- Hands-on experience with enterprise network hardware and platforms (e.g., Juniper, Cisco, Arista, Palo Alto, Fortinet) at scale.
- Proven experience with enterprise wireless design and network access control (802.1X, RADIUS, NAC).
- Strong automation skills with Python, and experience applying Infrastructure as Code and version control to network operations.
- Demonstrated ownership of complex, cross-functional network projects from design through deployment, including vendor and carrier management.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills on ambiguous, high-severity issues, and the communication skills to work with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to Aurora facilities and partner sites, and to participate in an on-call rotation.
Desirable qualifications
- Professional or expert-level certifications (e.g., Cisco CCNP or CCIE, Juniper JNCIP or JNCIE, JNCIA-DevOps, PCNSE).
- Experience with network monitoring and source of truth tooling (e.g., LibreNMS, Nautobot, TIG stack, or similar).
- Production cloud networking experience on a major platform (e.g., AWS, GCP), including VPC design and hybrid connectivity such as Direct Connect or Cloud Interconnect.
- Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, or logistics facilities, including OT and IIoT segmentation.
- Experience with CI/CD for network changes and Infrastructure as Code tooling (e.g., GitHub Actions, Terraform, Spacelift).
- Experience supporting high-bandwidth data ingest or large-scale data transfer environments.
