Primary Duties

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. These duties and responsibilities will be rated on the Annual Performance Review.

  • Operate straight trucks (1 1/2 to 4 tons, 6-wheel configuration) to deliver secure loads to proper location site throughout PA, in complete compliance with state and federal DOT regulations.
  • Coordinate directly with the Shipping & Receiving Specialist to verify load manifests, vehicle security seals, and outbound bills of lading before departure.
  • Perform routine inspection of vehicle to include, but not be limited to: ensuring that the tires are in good condition, oil and water are at appropriate levels, the exterior of the van has not been damaged, etc.; and provide written documentation to supervisor of needed service or repairs.
  • Maintain logbooks documenting all pick-ups and deliveries and accurately complete mileage and time logs while maintaining interior vehicle cleanliness on a daily basis and exterior as needed.
  • Ensure that temperature-controlled cargo remains securely within strict cold-chain parameters during transit, logging container temperatures as required.
  • Assist warehouse labor crews in safely blocking, bracing, and securing palletized cargo inside the truck bed to prevent shifting during transport.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Execute safe, professional offloading procedures at regional drop sites, obtaining authorized receiving signatures from unit representatives.
  • Operate hand trucks and/or power jacks.
  • Complete accurate incident, accident, and/or seizure reports as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Certification(s)

  • High School diploma or General educational Development (GED), required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience driving a straight truck, 1 1/2 to 4 tons or refridgerated transport vehicles preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license is required. Eligible drivers must have a good motor vehicle record (MVR).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Expert driving skills and a flawless commitment to defensive road safety.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent oral and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and accurately navigate regional travel routes while strictly maintaining tight delivery arrival windows.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

Physical Demands

The employee must be able to sit and maintain focus during extended driving intervals, climb into and out of medium truck cabs and cargo beds unassisted. Must be able to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing up to 55 pounds without assistance; reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping., and work in cold temperatures. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

This position operates primarily inside a medium commercial delivery vehicle traveling over public roads beyond the main physical establishment. Regular exposure to outdoor weather elements occurs during loading and unloading sequences at delivery locations. Hours can vary.
