About the Job

The Patient Access Auditor / Trainer plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of patient registration information while supporting revenue cycle success. This position audits registration activity, verifies insurance and demographic data, researches and resolves registration discrepancies, and serves as a key educator for Patient Access staff across the organization. The role provides training and ongoing support to registrars while promoting exceptional customer service and compliance with regulatory requirements.

What You’ll Do

• Audit daily patient registration activity to ensure accurate demographic, guarantor, and insurance information.
• Research and resolve incomplete or missing registration information, including insurance, employer, and guarantor details.
• Contact patients, employers, and other appropriate parties to obtain or verify registration and insurance information.
• Review insurance eligibility and coordinate benefits using online insurance resources and healthcare data exchange tools.
• Monitor worklists and address registration issues that may impact reimbursement.
• Educate staff on insurance requirements, regulatory compliance, and registration best practices.
• Train Emergency Department, inpatient, ancillary, and outpatient registrars on registration workflows and patient access procedures.
• Provide instruction on patient consent, financial responsibility documentation, and HIPAA privacy requirements.
• Audit registrar performance for registration accuracy and provide re-education and coaching as needed.
• Assist team members with insurance, registration, and patient access questions.
• Support patient estimate workflows and train staff on appropriate processes.
• Provide education on downtime procedures, work queue management, and system troubleshooting protocols.
• Cross-train and provide coverage for registration functions as needed.
• Maintain a strong focus on customer service and patient satisfaction.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Who You Are / Requirements

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s degree or higher preferred.

Experience

• Minimum of five to seven (5-7) years of experience in patient registration, patient access, or a closely related field required.

Knowledge

• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Knowledge of insurance and managed care policies, practices, and procedures.
• Knowledge of insurance regulations preferred.
