Corporate Compliance, Chief Compliance Officer, Chief Privacy Officer and Complaints Officer (Canada), VP

Who we are looking for The Vice President, Corporate Compliance serves as the senior compliance executive for State Street's Canadian operations, providing independent oversight of regulatory compliance risk across regulated and non-regulated legal entities. As Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) for State Street Trust Company Canada and State Street Bank and Trust Company Canada Branch, the role is responsible for leading the Regulatory Compliance Management (RCM) framework and ensuring compliance with applicable federal and provincial laws, regulations, regulatory guidance, and industry standards.

The role operates independently from business management and provides objective oversight, challenge, strategic advice and reporting to Boards of Directors, Board Committees, senior management, and regulatory authorities. This position plays a critical role in safeguarding the organization's regulatory compliance, reputation, and governance standards while supporting strategic business objectives across Canada. The position also serves as Chief Privacy Officer and Complaints Officer for Canadian operations.

The role serves as a Compliance central point of contact for four legal entities in Canada.

What you will be responsible for Regulatory Compliance Oversight

• Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of the Canadian Regulatory Compliance Management framework and associated legal entity Compliance programs.
• Maintain comprehensive inventories of regulatory obligations and compliance requirements and provide independent oversight of compliance risk across all applicable financial and non-financial regulatory requirements, including prudential regulation, privacy, AML-related governance (supported by an AML team), third-party risk management, accessibility, anti-spam, consumer protection and complaint handling.
• Develop and maintain regulatory compliance frameworks, policies, standards, and governance processes to identify, assess, monitor, and mitigate compliance risk.
• Oversee enterprise compliance risk assessments, regulatory inventories, compliance monitoring, testing, and issue management programs.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and provide guidance regarding regulatory changes, emerging risks, and potential business impacts.
• Support governance activities relating to operational resilience, recovery planning, capital adequacy, third-party risk management, and other enterprise risk management initiatives.
• Manage and develop compliance professionals responsible for supporting regulated and non-regulated Canadian entities.

Governance, Board Reporting and Regulatory Relations

• Provide independent compliance reporting and compliance risk opinions to Boards of Directors, Audit and Risk Committee, management committees, and executive leadership.
• Present annual compliance plans, compliance risk assessments, regulatory compliance reports, and remediation updates.
• Escalate significant compliance matters, regulatory issues, and emerging risks to senior management and governing bodies as appropriate.
• Serve as the primary compliance liaison with Canadian regulators and supervisory authorities.
• Lead regulatory interactions, supervisory examinations, monitor meetings, inquiries, and regulatory submissions.
• Represent State Street Canada on industry committees and working groups, including the Canadian Bankers Association (“CBA”) and attend sessions including the Institute of International Finance (“IIF”), and other regulatory and industry forums.

Leadership

• Lead, develop and mentor a high performing team supporting multiple legal entities, business units and corporate functions.
• Coordinate implementation of global compliance programs and Canadian regulatory initiatives.
• Liaise with local senior management and global Markets and Investment Services Compliance teams.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

• 10 plus years of relevant experience in regulatory compliance in Canada, both regulated and unregulated legal entities
• Thorough understanding of regulatory compliance programs
• Proven ability to lead regulator interactions including facilitating senior management sessions, regulatory requests and audits
• Strong executive communication skills including experience preparing materials for senior management, Board and Regulators
• Experience maintaining compliance program Frameworks, policies, procedures
• Experience leading and developing teams in a fast-paced environment
• Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree preferred and/or relevant industry courses
