Director of Engineering

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As Director of Engineering, you will be responsible for the engineering health of Talon.One’s Product Engineering teams. This domain consists of ~13 cross-functional squads with dozens of engineers, Architects, Engineering Managers, and Sr EMs. You will be required to oversee and mature the general operations of these teams and individuals, drive engineering innovation, jump into firefighting when necessary, set year-long goals in collaboration with Product Leadership, and make success measurable across all levels of your domain. You will be the final point of responsibility for anything new that arises in Product Engineering, ensuring that opportunities are seized and threats handled, before delegating or setting up processes for the future.

ONCE YOU ARE HERE YOU WILL:

• Manage, coach, and grow up to 6 Senior Engineering Managers, enabling them to expertly lead their teams
• Manage, coach, and utilize senior engineering talent through direct management of Engineering Architects and oversight of all product engineers
• Oversee the productivity of all teams in your domain, proactively debugging people and processes while de-siloing successes and knowledge
• Stay on top of industry trends and look years into the future, setting up plans for growth and adaptation of the RnD Department
• Jump into exceptions and emergencies, while setting up processes to make such cases routine
• From developer experience to the general throughput, make the success at all the levels measurable

WHAT WE NEED YOU TO BRING TO THE TABLE:

• Strong experience managing managers, and coordinating numerous different teams as they achieve business goals
• Several years of hands-on work as an engineer
• Several years of hands-on work in the SaaS industry
• A history of re-working and iterating on organizational setups with a mind to successful change management
• A passion for translating the big picture into achievable engineering goal

ABOUT TECHNOLOGY:

• Kubernetes running on Google Cloud
• PostgreSQL
• We use Go for our API, core logic, and internal tooling
• TypeScript, React, Redux, and CSS modules for our web application
• Cypress for automated end-to-end testing
• Other odds & ends in JavaScript and shell script
