Here’s a Glimpse of the Job

The Research Assistant will work directly with faculty to administer a federally funded study of mothers. Responsibilities will include participant recruitment, recruiting and training undergraduate research assistants, scheduling and staffing laboratory visits, conducting laboratory visits with community families, maintaining contact with participants for follow-up, overseeing data coding and entry, and helping with data management. Opportunities will be available to learn statistical analysis and scientific writing if desired.

Opportunities to Contribute:

  • Collect behavioral, psychophysiological, and survey data with parents and children.
  • Recontact participating families for longitudinal follow-ups.
  • Coordinate schedules of undergraduate research assistants.
  • Supervise the work of undergraduate researchers.
  • Recruit families for human subject research using mailing, social media, e-mail, and in-person methods.
  • Establish relationships with community partners for participant recruitment.
  • Clean and score behavioral and psychophysiological data.
  • Construct data sets for statistical analysis.
  • Work with the Primary Investigator to organize data storage and sharing.
  • Manage administrative duties for the Primary Investigator.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to lift and/or move medium-weight objects.

A well-qualified candidate may also possess:

  • 1-2 years of human subject research
  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Human Development or related field.
  • Prior experience with psychophysiology.
  • Previous experience working with young children and their families in a research setting, particularly experience assisting with research activities or data collection involving children and/or parent-child interactions.
  • Spanish language fluency.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • High levels of attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Ability to multi-task and work as part of a collaborative team.

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate's education and experience.

Special Note: This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding, which is renewed through provisions of the grantor of the contract. Therefore, this position is contingent upon continuation of funding from these grants and/or contracts, as well as satisfactory job performance.

Schedule Note: This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
