The Role: Want to be a part of our exciting growth journey?

We are looking for a talented, passionate, and motivated individual to join our team as a Revenue Accountant, where you will play a critical role in making sure our subscription revenue is recognised accurately and on time, in our Finance team.

You will own subscription revenue recognition and the deferred revenue schedule in Xero, take on the fixed asset register, prepayments and intercompany reconciliations, and support month-end close alongside the wider team.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on revenue recognition experience in a subscription or SaaS business, strong Xero proficiency, and the judgement to spot a transaction that does not fit the policy.

Key Responsibilities

Revenue

  • Post subscription revenue in Xero each period, in the correct period and account, in line with our revenue recognition policy
  • Own the deferred revenue schedule and reconcile it to the general ledger every month
  • Prepare revenue schedules and supporting documentation for month-end reporting and external audit
  • Review customer contracts and billing arrangements to confirm how revenue should be recognised, and raise anything that does not fit the policy
  • Investigate revenue movements month on month and explain them to the Finance Manager

Month-end schedules

  • Maintain the fixed asset register in Xero, recording additions at cost, posting depreciation, processing disposals, and reconciling the register to the general ledger monthly
  • Own the prepayments schedule, amortising over the correct period in line with the underlying agreement and releasing expired balances
  • Prepare and post intercompany transactions, reconcile balances across Traild entities each month, and prepare settlement and foreign exchange revaluation journals

Close and compliance

  • Prepare and post assigned routine journals each period, with clear supporting documentation
  • Complete bank reconciliations and investigate differences before they reach close
  • Support the month-end close, completing assigned reconciliations and tasks within agreed timelines
  • Flag unusual or unexplained transactions before they surface in reconciliations or monthly reporting
  • Assist the Finance Manager with BAS preparation and lodgement, and provide supporting documentation for audit

Supporting the team

  • Provide accounts payable support, including invoice entry and payment processing, and assist with accounts receivable as the team's volume requires
  • Cover billing during leave and peak periods
  • Use Xero and all integrated finance systems confidently and independently, flagging system issues promptly
  • Document recurring processes clearly, so they can be followed by any team member

Who You Are:

  • 3 to 5 years in a hands-on accounting role, with genuine ownership of revenue recognition rather than invoicing alone
  • Experience recognising subscription or recurring revenue, including deferred revenue schedules, ideally in a SaaS or subscription business
  • Comfortable reading a customer contract and turning it into a revenue treatment, and confident raising a transaction that does not fit the policy
  • Hands-on Xero experience is essential, and you pick up connected finance systems quickly
  • Strong Excel or Sheets for reconciliations and supporting schedules
  • Experience with month-end schedules such as fixed assets, prepayments or intercompany reconciliations, or the appetite to take them on
  • Comfortable moving between technical accounting and transactional work, and happy to assist where the team needs it
  • Experience in a scale-up or another high-volume finance environment
  • A clear, calm written communicator who works well asynchronously across time zones and keeps a reliable daily overlap with Australian business hours
  • An accounting, commerce or finance qualification, or part-qualification. Equivalent practical experience is considered, and a CPA qualification is an advantage
  • Exposure to BAS preparation and lodgement, or other Australian compliance work, is an advantage
  • Hands-on use of AI tools to speed up accounting work, with a real example you can talk through, is an advantage

Strong collaborator with an attitude embracing growth, hands-on execution, adaptability, and the scale-up spirit.
