What success looks like in this role:
Research Data Management Services
The service provider shall deliver Research Data Management Services supporting client research, laboratory, experimental, and secure ICT environments.
The service is responsible for supporting the secure management, movement, governance, and reporting of research data and information assets. Services will ensure research data is handled in accordance with organizational policies, security frameworks, information management standards, and operational requirements.
Personnel delivering this service shall work collaboratively with researchers, project teams, ICT service providers, cyber security specialists, and governance stakeholders to ensure research information remains accessible, secure, compliant, and fit for purpose throughout its lifecycle.
Core Service Functions
1. Data Movement and Exchange Services
Provide secure data transfer and exchange services, including:
- Administration and operation of approved data movement services.
- Facilitation of secure data transfer between approved systems, networks, and security domains.
- Validation of data handling and transfer requirements.
- Monitoring and troubleshooting of data transfer activities.
- Investigation and resolution of routine data exchange issues.
- Coordination with ICT infrastructure, cyber security, and research stakeholders to support data movement requirements.
- Maintenance of records and audit trails associated with data movement activities.
2. Data Governance and Compliance Services
Support organisational governance, compliance, and information management activities, including:
- Application of approved data governance policies, procedures, and standards.
- Support for information classification, handling, retention, and disposal requirements.
- Maintenance of governance records, registers, and supporting artefacts.
- Contribution to audit, accreditation, assurance, and compliance activities.
- Identification, reporting, and escalation of data-related risks and issues.
- Support for continuous improvement of data governance practices.
- Assistance in the development and maintenance of security and governance documentation.
3. Research Data Support Services
Provide operational support to research teams and stakeholders, including:
- Assistance with data management activities supporting research programs.
- Advice on approved processes for storing, handling, protecting, and transferring research data.
- Investigation and resolution of routine data-related incidents and service requests.
- Support for specialised datasets, experimental systems, and secure research environments.
- Coordination with internal and external stakeholders to support research data requirements.
- Promotion of sound data management practices across supported research areas.
4. Documentation and Reporting Services
Develop, maintain, and deliver documentation and reporting services, including:
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Data management procedures and work instructions.
- Operational records and governance artefacts.
- Audit evidence and compliance documentation.
- Information Security Manual (ISM) documentation and supporting artefacts.
- Data management performance and compliance reporting.
- Records relating to data movement, governance, and support activities.
Responsibilities:

- Applying established data management methods, standards, and procedures.
- Supporting the governance, integrity, security, and accessibility of organizational data assets.
- Maintaining data management records, repositories, and governance artefacts.
- Investigating and resolving routine data management issues.
- Supporting stakeholders in the effective management and use of data.
- Contributing to improvements in data management and governance practices.
- Producing documentation and reports supporting operational and compliance outcomes.
You will be successful in this role if you have:
- Must be an Australian Citizen.
- Hold and maintain an Australian Government Negative Vetting Level 2 (NV2) Security Clearance.
