About Us: The Valley Children’s Hospital Critical Care Transport team has stood as a beacon of mentorship, of community support, a dedicated care provider, and an educator since its inception over 40 years ago. With an unyielding commitment to delivering top-tier medical care, the Valley Children’s Transport team has remained a steadfast presence for tertiary care centers.

Our busy Transport team orchestrates the movement of over 1,200 critical care neonatal and pediatric patients annually, averaging a remarkable 3.1 life-saving transports per day. This dynamic team is comprised of extended practice RNs and RCPs, all adept at independently tending to the needs of critically ill and injured infants and children. Their actions are guided by rigorous policies and procedures, all under the oversight of a transport medical provider.

Our NICU and PICU transport teams crisscross the landscape utilizing ambulances, helicopters, and fixed-wing aircraft to retrieve pediatric patients across the expanse of the San Joaquin Valley, the Central Coast, and the adjacent mountain communities, encompassing a region spanning 50,000 square miles.

Within this mobile medical environment, our teams deliver cutting-edge, comprehensive intensive care services. These encompass a spectrum of advanced techniques, including high-frequency ventilation, the administration of nitric oxide, ECMO, and neonatal hypothermia, among a host of others.

Job Summary:

This position is accountable for receiving and directing information pertaining to the referral or consultation of neonatal and pediatric patients in a fast-paced, dynamic environment under specific time constraints to facilitate patient throughput through Valley Children's Healthcare. The Access Center is the referral source for all interfacility referrals for inpatient care, telemedicine, specialty consults, ED transfers, critical care and trauma transport to and from Valley Children's Healthcare. The incumbant is responsible for dispatching transport teams, ambulances, and flight crews for critical care transport, and coordinating all non patient care activities in the Access Center. Responsibilities include handling multiple phone lines in a high volume call center, accurate computer data entry that includes patient registration into the electronic health record, transport and flight metrics, and assisting with other hospital processes/duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education

• High School Diploma/G.E.D. (required)

Work Experience

• Minimum three (3) years Healthcare experience (required)

Skills and Abilities

• Computer Skills Proficiency using computers and computer applications.
• Computer Skills Typing (45 wpm).
• Medical terminology - Formal course work or competency gained through prior experience in a healthcare field preferred.
• High call volume with multiple phone line experience preferred.
• Experience using and inputting data into an electronic medical record preferred.
• Efficient data entry (detail oriented) - Ability to document large amounts of data appropriately within time constraints.
• Teamwork - Ability to work independently as well as within a team.
