Position Overview

The Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled professional who assists in patient care management, bridging the gap between the medical staff and patients. This position performs various clinical and administrative tasks to ensure that health facilities run smoothly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians during examinations and procedures
  • Prepare patients for examinations, tests, or treatments
  • Administer medications as directed by a physician
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens
  • Perform basic laboratory tests and EKGs
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, and physicians' instructions to patients
  • Ensure that all equipment is sterilized and maintain a clean working environment
  • Maintain awareness and compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies
  • Ensure examination rooms are stocked with necessary supplies
  • Order medical and office supplies as needed

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic understanding of clinical procedures and medical terminology
  • Proficiency in using medical software and electronic health records (EHR)
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact positively with diverse patient populations
  • Attention to detail and ability to multitask

Preferred:

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program is highly preferred
  • Certification from a recognized Medical Assistant program is a plus (e.g., CMA, RMA, NCMA)
  • Knowledge of first aid and CPR is desirable

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Physical activities may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion
  • Must have good balance and coordination
  • Medium work requiring exertion of up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently
  • Close visual acuity, including color, depth perception, and field of vision, is required for activities such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading
  • Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as hazardous or poisonous materials
