The Market Director role at Whistle Express is one of the highest-leverage leadership positions in the company. You will own the full operation across 12 to 20 sites - the P&L, the people, the culture, and the performance. Everything the brand promises to guests starts with the standard you set and the leaders you develop.
Whistle is growing fast. New markets, new sites, new people joining every week. The Market Director is how we scale without losing what makes us different. You are not inheriting a finished operation - you are shaping one.
Key Responsibilities
Market Leadership & Operations Oversight
- Lead overall operations for 12–20 express carwash sites, ensuring consistent execution across the market.
- Set expectations, monitor results, and drive performance improvements through strong leadership and accountability.
- Ensure all locations follow company operating procedures, safety guidelines, and customer service standards.
- Directly manage a set of sites within their market and lead operations for the entire market.
P&L Ownership
- Own full P&L for the market, including revenue, labor, operating expenses, and profitability.
- Review financial results regularly and lead action plans to drive sales, manage costs, and improve margins.
- Support membership growth and local marketing initiatives that drive top‑line performance.
People Leadership
- Lead and develop a team of Site Managers, Market Managers and Maintenance Leaders, Market Trainers across the market.
- Recruit, train, and coach leaders, ensuring strong bench strength for future growth.
- Create a positive, safe, and productive culture focused on teamwork, accountability, and great service.
Maintenance & Asset Reliability
- Oversee maintenance performance and ensure all wash equipment is operating safely and efficiently.
- Partner with maintenance teams to plan repairs, schedule preventative maintenance, and reduce downtime.
- Ensure all sites uphold company standards for equipment care, chemical usage, and facility conditions.
Customer Experience
- Ensure all locations deliver fast, friendly, and consistent customer service.
- Support sites in resolving customer concerns professionally and in a timely manner.
- Monitor quality levels to ensure every wash meets or exceeds company standards.
Operational Standards & Compliance
- Conduct regular market tours to review operations, cleanliness, safety, and team performance.
- Ensure compliance with safety rules, environmental standards, equipment handling, and chemical management.
- Identify issues quickly and support sites in resolving problems before they impact customers or operations.
Performance Management & Reporting
- Review key performance indicators (KPIs) regularly and drive accountability for results at each site.
- Provide clear, direct feedback to managers and teams to support continuous improvement.
- Prepare and present market performance updates to regional or corporate leadership.
Decision Making
- Owns: Market‑level operational decisions, P&L management, staffing strategy, maintenance performance and leadership decisions.
- Influences: Capital planning, pricing adjustments, and strategic operational initiatives.
- Escalates: Major capital needs, long‑term closures, or issues with significant operational risk.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of multi‑unit leadership experience in carwash, retail, service, or similar field‑operations environments.
- Demonstrated success managing P&Ls and driving financial performance.
- Strong leadership, communication, and coaching skills at scale.
- Ability to travel daily across multiple locations.
- Experience working with mechanical, industrial, or equipment‑based operations preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods and walk sites daily.
- Ability to lift 25–50 pounds if needed during site visits.
- Ability to work outdoors year‑round, including in varying weather conditions.
Work Schedule
- Full‑time leadership role with travel across assigned market.
- Requires a flexible schedule including some weekends or evenings based on business needs.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for a proven operator who leads from the front and builds people along the way.
- 5 or more years of multi-unit leadership experience in car wash, retail, service, or similar field operations environments.
- Demonstrated success owning a P&L and driving measurable financial performance.
- A track record of developing leaders, not just managing them. The best operators leave their markets stronger than they found them.
- Strong communication and coaching skills at scale. You can hold a room of site managers accountable and still have them leave motivated.
- Comfortable with mechanical, industrial, or equipment-based operations. You do not need to fix the equipment - but you need to understand what it takes to keep it running.
- Able to travel daily across multiple locations and work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
- Physically able to walk sites daily, stand for extended periods, and lift 25 to 50 pounds during site visits.
