Join us and, together, we’ll advance your career. System Software Engineer - Linux Kernel THE ROLE: AMD is seeking a highly motivated Software Development Engineer to join our Networking, RDMA, Storage, and AI Infrastructure Software team. In this role, you will design and develop high-performance software technologies that power modern AI training clusters, cloud infrastructure, storage platforms, and next-generation data centers. You will work closely with hardware architects, firmware teams, silicon designers, and open-source communities to deliver innovative solutions across the Linux networking, RDMA, and storage software stack. As a key member of the team, you will influence the architecture and implementation of technologies that enable scalable AI and distributed computing workloads on AMD platforms. THE PERSON: The ideal candidate is passionate about systems software and enjoys solving complex technical challenges across hardware and software boundaries. You possess strong software engineering fundamentals, deep expertise in Linux operating systems, networking, RDMA, storage technologies, and distributed computing platforms, and a proven ability to drive features from concept through deployment. You are comfortable working across multiple layers of the software stack, collaborating with architects and global engineering teams, and providing technical leadership to drive execution and innovation. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Design, develop, and maintain Linux kernel drivers, userspace libraries, and software frameworks for high-performance networking, RDMA, storage, and AI infrastructure platforms. Drive architecture, implementation, and optimization of networking, storage, and data movement technologies including Ethernet, RDMA/RoCE, NVMe, NVMe-oF, virtualization, transport acceleration, and scalable storage solutions. Collaborate with hardware, firmware, architecture, and performance teams to define and enable next-generation networking, storage, and AI infrastructure capabilities. Analyze, benchmark, and optimize networking and storage software stacks to maximize throughput, latency, scalability, and resource efficiency for AI training and inference workloads. Debug and resolve complex system-level issues spanning operating systems, drivers, firmware, hardware, networking fabrics, storage systems, and distributed environments. Contribute to Linux open-source projects and drive upstream adoption of AMD technologies while working with industry partners and open-source communities. Leverage modern AI-assisted development, code analysis, and debugging tools to improve engineering productivity and software quality. Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers while contributing to architecture reviews, technology strategy, and engineering best practices. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Strong software development experience in C and C++ with a solid foundation in systems programming. Experience developing Linux kernel drivers, networking software, RDMA software, storage software, operating system components, or other low-level systems software. Strong understanding of computer architecture, memory management, operating systems, concurrency, multithreaded programming, and performance optimization. Hands-on experience with networking and storage technologies including TCP/IP, Ethernet, RDMA/RoCE, InfiniBand, NVMe, NVMe-oF, storage fabrics, virtualization, DPDK, SPDK, or equivalent high-performance frameworks. Hands-on experience with high-performance networking, RDMA, storage, and communication software stacks for AI and HPC workloads, including RoCE, libFabric, UCX, OpenMPI, NCCL/RCCL, OneCCL, collective communication libraries, and distributed training frameworks. Experience analyzing and optimizing distributed AI workloads running across large-scale GPU, accelerator, and networking infrastructures. Hands-on experience with Linux development tools, debugging techniques, performance profiling, Git, CI/CD systems, automated testing frameworks, and software validation methodologies. Familiarity with AI-assisted software development tools and automated code generation, testing, debugging, and review workflows. Experience contributing to Linux open-source projects and collaborating with upstream communities is highly desirable. Demonstrated technical leadership with the ability to drive cross-functional initiatives and influence software architecture decisions. ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field. #LI-NS1 Benefits offered are described: AMD benefits at a glance.
