Position Overview

The Engagement Lead (Director) is a senior, accountable leader for a complex Department of War client engagement. This consulting leadership role requires the ability to independently navigate ambiguous client situations, become a trusted adviser to senior leaders, identify how ASI can best support client needs, and translate strategy into disciplined execution and executive-quality deliverables. The Engagement Lead owns consulting rigor across the integrated workplan, team performance, quality, partner coordination, and account growth.

The role begins as a hands-on individual contributor or lean-team leader. In addition to defining the vision and overall strategy for assigned projects, the successful candidate must be comfortable personally structuring analyses, building and editing PowerPoint and Excel deliverables, running client meetings, and resolving day-to-day delivery issues without relying on a large support team. The Engagement Lead works in close partnership with another ASI Engagement Lead who brings deep government experience, combining consulting expertise and delivery discipline with established client relationships, institutional knowledge, and subject-matter expertise.

Key Responsibilities

Client leadership and trusted advisory

• Co-lead the engagement with a government mission leader, combining consulting discipline with established client relationships, institutional knowledge, and subject-matter expertise.
• Serve as a senior day-to-day interface with client leadership; anticipate needs, read stakeholder dynamics, and build credibility through sound judgment, responsiveness, and follow-through.
• Frame ambiguous problems, develop clear points of view, and provide strategic ideas and practical recommendations that reflect the client mission, operating context, and implementation realities.
• Design and lead executive meetings, working sessions, decision forums, and difficult conversations with concise messaging and confident facilitation.
• Operate independently in sensitive client situations, escalating selectively and bringing proposed solutions rather than unresolved problems.

Consulting delivery and quality

• Own the engagement from problem definition through implementation, including scope, hypotheses, workplan, milestones, dependencies, decisions, and outcomes.
• Translate analysis into a clear story line and personally develop, review, and refine polished PowerPoint presentations, Excel analyses, written products, and executive briefings.
• Set a high quality bar for accuracy, logic, visual presentation, attention to detail, and readiness for senior-client review; ensure deliverables require minimal executive rework.
• Maintain rigorous program management, including action and decision tracking, risk management, meeting cadence, staffing, budget, and timely resolution of issues.
• Coach contributors through precise direction, rapid feedback, and quality review while remaining accountable for the integrated product.

Partner and work lane leadership

• Define and negotiate clear work-lane scope, roles, interfaces, and decision rights with prime contractors, subcontractors, and other consulting partners.
• Identify where ASI can contribute distinctive value based on its AI, acquisition, organizational transformation, implementation, and government-domain expertise.
• Manage handoffs and interdependencies so the client experiences one coherent team without losing visibility into ASI contributions.

Account growth and market development

• Identify and shape follow-on opportunities by translating unmet client needs and adjacent mission priorities into clear problems, outcomes, approaches, stakeholders, acquisition paths, and next steps.
• Build direct, durable ASI relationships across the client organization, expanding the firm’s network beyond the immediate engagement and partner-led channels.
• Partner with growth and capture leaders to advance on-contract growth, proposals, recompetes, account strategies, and reusable offerings that strengthen ASI’s position in the market.

Commercial and operational stewardship

• Manage contract performance, staffing, utilization, budget, burn, margin, subcontractor performance, and reporting with timely, accurate data.
• Identify delivery, relationship, financial, and contractual risks early; implement corrective actions and elevate decisions with clear options and recommendations.

Minimum Requirements

• 10+ years of professional experience, including substantial experience in management consulting, strategy consulting, transformation consulting, or a comparable client-services environment.
• 5+ years leading consulting engagements or major workstreams with direct accountability for senior-client relationships, integrated delivery, team performance, and executive-level outputs.
• DoW Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain Top Secret / SCI (SAP Access)
• Demonstrated record of independently navigating complex client environments and becoming a trusted adviser to senior executives.
• Advanced PowerPoint and Excel skills, including the ability to personally structure analyses, build executive-ready story lines, and improve others’ work to a high consulting standard.
• Exceptional verbal communication and executive presence; able to communicate a crisp point of view, facilitate decisions, and adapt in the room.
• Strong program management and attention to detail across scope, schedule, quality, resources, risks, decisions, and follow-through.
• Experience identifying, shaping, and advancing follow-on work from existing client relationships.
• Experience working across organizational boundaries and negotiating roles and work scope with partners, subcontractors, or peer consulting firms.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Ability to obtain and maintain the clearance and client-site access required for assigned engagements.
• Willingness and ability to travel to client sites three to four days per week.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Department of War or other federal clients in acquisition, industrial base, logistics, readiness, organizational transformation, workforce, technology, or related mission areas.
• Experience in a top-tier strategy or management consulting firm, or a consulting environment with comparable standards for client leadership, analytics, and executive communications.
• Experience building a new account, capability, offering, or market area.
• Master’s degree or other relevant advanced degree.
• Familiarity with AI/ML, RPA, intelligent automation, or digital transformation programs in a federal context
